The mechanical advantage is yours. - Set It and Forget It

With gobs of beautifully modulated power and intuitive easy-to-use adjustability, the BB7s set the standard in the realm of mechanical disc brakes. Inboard and outboard adjustor knobs, Tri-Align Caliper Positioning System, and integrated Cable Stop spring tension adjustment ensures that our standard is everyone else s goal.

Smooth, powerful braking performance that’s simple to set up and easy to adjust. Bad weather or rough roads? Not even a factor with BB7’s reliable mechanical performance.

    Tri-Align™ Caliper Positioning System™

Another original Avid technology making your life better—there’s never been an easier brake to install and adjust. With Avid’s Tri-Align™Caliper Positioning System™, aligning the caliper to the rotor literally takes seconds. Just loosen the CPS™ bolts a little, and then squeeze the brake lever while re-tightening the bolts. Perfect caliper alignment—just like that.

    Avid BB7

Pros - Good, solid build. - comes with 0mm and 20mm I.S. adapters to fit different sized rotors (from native 140mm to 160mm rear, and native 160mm to 180mm front). - Relatively easy to set up once a bit of online research done and the best bits from each method chosen. Cons - Instructions not very detailed or clear - e.g. whether to wind pads all the way out before proceeding to hold brake lever tights and tighten mounting bolts - Having to add a barrel adjuster mid-cable is a good idea, because road levers don't have one, but why not just have one on the brake itself? - One of my disc rotors not super-true - will have to true it for optimum performance.

    Great brakes

Ive got these on two bikes. My race cx and my commuter. They have been faultless. Easy to set up and adjust to keep working while in use. They are much more powerful than any rim brakes I've used meaning a lighter touch is required. Especially good for the three peaks. they've survived two seasons of very muddy cross and 12 months of commuting and still work well. Perhaps not as powerful as a good set of hydraulics but more than good enough for my uses.

    Very Good

These are great once they've been bedded in which take a couple hundred miles. The stopping power is great but can be a little noisy in the wet. A little copper grease can sort this out though.

    The best money can buy

If you need discs for road/cyclocross look no further. These are to my knowledge the only fully adjustable brakes you can buy and the ease of use is totally worth it. Best used descending Pyreneean cols with 30kgs of luggage.

    Stopping power!

Switched from feeble tektro discs to these on my cross bike The most powerful brake I've used with drop bar levers. I run basic full length cable housing to the rear brake and it is a bit squashy so you might like to experiment with good quality compression-less housing.

AVID BB7 ROAD DISC BRAKE 160MM

These are great brakes that work properly with road levers. The kit includes the caliper rotor fitting hardware and Avid inline cable adjusters. Getting the cable runs between the lever and the caliper exactly right significantly increases the brake performance and feel. The brakes need some use and adjustment to get the best out of them. The cables will stretch and the pads will bed in to the rotor. The brakes are effective when first fitted after 200 miles they totally DIALLED!
