    It's really a Prototype

Please don't confuse the product review with Tredz as a business. Tredz Service has been excellent. The Fly 12 Camera and cycle light is a great idea and saves space on your handlebars. BUT - the device fixings are lacking and makes fitting to your bike handlebars in need of compromising with rubber grommets as for me, the clamp supplied fully closed was nowhere near tight or useable to secure the Fly 12 device to my bike (mountain bike). With only a clamp supplied and no other supporting fittings or fixtures, for the money, I thought this was really poor from Cycliq. (in comparison the Fly 6 comes with multi fixings to suit different seat stem sizes, so I think it's fair to expect the same level of fixings for the front device Fly 12 which is more than double the cost!). I also had to file down the supporting lugs on the Fly 12 to fix it into the handlebar fixing (Tripod standard fitting) as it was so stiff to get on and off I was close to pulling my handlebars off the headset / forks!! Dremel use later and it fits perfectly.... The device is advertised as having 10 hrs battery life, well expect 2hrs if you use the flashing strobe and record at the same time, that's a massive difference from the claims of Cycliq. Let's face it, who is going to use record only without a light on to be safe and seen on the road, even during the day? The recording is odd. It records in HD (if you select this setting) but also duplicates the file on the Micro card automatically as a lessor standard definition file; why? Just takes up valuable space. Also when files are full on the SD Card it deletes files that are not necessarily the oldest - why? Therefore to avoid a days cycling being overwritten that I have no idea what files are going to be auto deleted due to disk space I purchased a 64GB SD card to compensate the issue = more money spent! HD video footage is good and clear enough to capture vehicle registration plates during the day (didn't try night time). When recording the microphone is poor, if you are shouting you can be heard on the recording, otherwise forget about this feature being of any use. Same no-go for the security alarm and iPhone App capability. The Apple app is poor and bug ridden with connectivity being a joke to view your footage on your iPhone (i Have iPhone 6+ and latest software on it). To summarise, if you are happy to buy something that is a lot of money and a prototype with all the issues you get with unreliable untested devices then go ahead. I'll keep mine as it does hold potential but it really is not worth anywhere near the stupid price Cycliq are asking for it (Cycliq web site price is same as Tredz). I purchased the Fly 6 at the same time as this and by comparison the Fly 6 is well worth the money but sets the expectations of what the Fly 12 should be for the extra cost to us.

    Excellent light/camera combo

I have the Fly6 rear version and decided to go for the Fly12 for maximum benefit. This is a fantastic product. The build quality is excellent. It syncs with the Cycliq app so you can review and share your footage on the go (iOS only as at 1 June 16, Android in development ). The battery life is very good, I did an all day 100-miler and it was still going strong at the end. Comes with a 16GB MicroSD card, which allows for around 3 hours recording, will loop and record over old footage which is a neat feature. It's brand new on the market so bound to be some development areas. It's heavier than you probably expect, if you're massively concerned about keeping the weight down on your ride this probably isn't for you. It's quite large too so takes up handlebar space, but not a real problem as the bracket enables it to flip so it sits upside down underneath the bars. It's also quite expensive, but for what you get I'd say it's worth it. All in all, a great unit and if, like me, you've had a previous cycling incident this will give you some added reassurance on your rides.
