Beware stack height if upgrading from loose bearings

The stack height of this headset is much higher than stated. Not Tredz's fault - the 27mm figure comes from the manufacturer's website (madison.co.uk), which gives the same stack height for threaded & threadless headsets. Actual stack height for the 1" threaded model is 41mm (12mm bottom, 29mm top), which for me replacing a Ritchey Pro logic caged bearing headset (33mm total stack), there was not enough thread on the steerer to attach the locknut. All is not lost, however. As the top bearing takes relatively little load, you can keep the upper races & bearing from the old headset, replace the lower parts with the hopefully more durable M:Part cartridge bearing, and because the top & bottom parts are identical, you've got some spares ready for next time. Haven't ridden on it much yet, but it appears to be functioning OK so far.
