5/5 BikeRadar “The Roubaix's comfort, control and handling qualities are among the very best”

Make every ride better. The Specialized Roubaix Expert is an endurance road bike that offers a fast and efficient ride over every road surface. With predictable handling and unparalleled compliance this is a bike that is ideal for sportives and any ride over less than perfect road surfaces.

Smoother is faster. The new Roubaix features revolutionary compliance technology developed in partnership with McLaren. The Future Shock is a piston in the head tube offering 20mm of travel to reduce fatigue over rough terrain allowing you to ride faster. Positioned above the head tube, the Future Shock offers vertical compliance while the wheels are still rigidly held together by the frame. This means, that unlike traditional suspension systems, or forks that offer fore/aft deflection, the wheelbase remains constant, so you get extremely predictable handling combined with a smooth ride. In addition to this the seatpost offers 20mmof rearward arc compliance for comfort in the saddle, that still maintains frame stiffness and geometry.

The Fact 10r carbon fibre composite frame is the lightest that Specialized have ever made and is combined with the top of the line Roubaix FACT 11r carbon disc fork, with 12m thru-axle, for supreme stiffness. Endurance geometry offers a slightly more upright riding position that is ideal for long rides over challenging terrain, while Ride-First Engineering ensures that you get the same great ride experience in every frame size. You also get a removable SWAT storage box that allows you to store your ride essentials low down on the frame.

The full Shimano Ultegra 2x11 speed drivetrain offers slick shifting with a wide arrange of gears for taking on varied terrain. The Shimano BR-805 hydraulic disc brakes offer unparalleled stopping power so you can ride with confidence in all weather conditions. DT R460 Pro disc wheels are tough yet lightweight.

Ride further and faster with less fatigue on the Specialized Roubaix Expert.

    Smooth ride

I bought the 58cm Expert from Tredz. It weighs in at 8.7kg without pedals. So far I've done 200 miles and here are my initial impressions. Ride quality - very smooth. I've come from using a cannondale synapse which isnt exactly an uncomfortable ride but the Roubaix is noticeably smoother especially at the front end with the future shock. I have the medium spring installed and I find I don't have sore wrists/hands anymore like I did with the synapse on rides 50 miles or more. Performance - difficult to say if smoother is in fact faster but my body (especially upper body, wrist and arms) felt noticeably fresher nearer the end of a 60 mile ride. On my synapse I have zonda wheels that are around 1600g. The dt Swiss wheels on the Roubaix do look good and roll well but they feel a tad heavy on hills and slower when sprinting compared to the zondas but nothing a wheel upgrade wouldn't fix. All in all the Roubaix is exactly what is trying to be. A long distance cruiser that will let you go far longer in comfort. If you are like me and prioritise comfort over an all out race bike then this won't disappoint. I only deducted a half star as I feel that a bike in this pric range could have slightly better wheels. It's the only thing i would swap on this bike. A good sub 1600g wheel set would give this 5 stars instead of 4.5
