Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon 29 Mountain Bike 2016 - Full Suspension MTB
Hit the trails hard with the new 2016 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon. It’s a thoroughbred trail bike ready for aggressive riding. At home on the most technical trails, it’s more nimble than an Enduro bike - but capable of being ridden on Enduro trails.
For 2016, the FSR has been redesigned to optimise the fast and smooth rolling 29er wheels. A slacker head angle, short chainstays and 135mm travel being the most important features.
FACT carbon frame
The Expert Carbon comes with a FACT 9m front triangle and M5 alloy rear. This combination makes for a super light, strong and stiff (where it needs to be) frame that’s ideal for trail riding.
To optimise the fast rolling 29er wheels, Specialized have modified the geometry for 2016. A slacker 67.5 degree head angle (69 degree in 2015) gives you more stability at speed when you’re tearing down your local trail centre.
437mm chainstays are pretty short, to tuck your rear end in and create a more nimble ride feel. The low bottom bracket height has been maintained to provide a lower centre of gravity and better handling in the corners.
SWAT
SWAT door storage is new this year. A space has been built into the downtube that is big enough to store trail essentials like a spare inner tube, pump and CO2 cartridges. The door also combines with a bottle cage so that on shorter hacks you may not even need to wear a backpack.
Storing essentials in the frame creates a lower centre of gravity, and it’s more comfortable to ride with a lighter pack (or no pack at all).
There is no rattling as you ride and frame integrity hasn’t been compromised to include the feature.
Internal cable routing keep your cable protected, and reduces the amount of maintenance you’ll need to do on them. A 12mm bolt through rear axle gives you a stiff rear end, and a 15mm axle on the fork improves steering precision.
The IRcc 125mm (100mm size small) command dropper post can be adjusted on the fly. You can set the right saddle height for the section of trail that you’re riding.
RockShox Pike
The Expert Carbon 29er comes with a RockShox Pike RC fork which is light, stiff and plush with excellent small and big impact performance. The Pike is one of the best performing forks on the market.
Fox Factory shock
Specialized matched the fork with a Factory version FOX Float CTD rear shock. This is the same as featured on the S-Works model. When the trail gets a rowdy there is a boost valve to give you improved performance. There is also a Kashima coating which provides a slicker feel and improves the shock’s durability.
FSR
This MTB gets its name from the FSR suspension system that it uses. The 4 bar linkage system with a second pivot on the chainstay (close to the rear axle) allows the rear wheel to move in a linear path. It is one of the most effective suspension systems for an MTB, and works independently from pedalling or braking forces.
There is no impact on chain tension and no pedal kickback or pedal induced bob. The result is a solid full-suss that can climb well and descend in a controlled and stable way. Sealed cartridge bearings on all pivot points are smooth and easy to service.
RX trail tune on the rear sus means that every shock has the volume, compression and rebound range tuned for each Stumpy. You don’t get this from every manufacturer.
SRAM 1x11
The frame and suspension is matched to high quality and performance spec like the 1x11 SRAM X1 drivetrain. This offers a wide range of gearing - ideal for trail riding. Shifting performance is crisp, fast and extremely reliable.
XT brakes
Shimano XT hydraulic disc brakes are powerful with a great feel and modulation. Ice Tech pads are great if you’re planning to ride longer descents, to keep your disc pads cool.
Roval Traverse wheels with a 29mm rim width are ready for aggressive trail riding on technical sections. You get a full Roval Traverse wheelset including hubs. They’re tubeless ready for a smoother, faster and easier ride - and no pinch flats.
The Specialized Stumpjumper Expert is a pedigree long-travel trail bike. A solid all-rounder and in a class of its own.
