Need to check stem height carefully

Although I had to send this product back because it didn't fit my bike, I've given it a high rating because it is very well made. The quality of construction is excellent, as with all Thule products, and the design of the seat is well thought out. The plastic is thick and durable, and the curled lip at the edges reinforces the strength of the seat structure. The seat padding is removable for washing, and is also reversible for colour choice. The straps are also excellent, being made out of backpack type material and including an adjusting tab on the front which makes changes to strap length on the fly pretty easy. The clip to secure the 5 point harness has a positive mechanism and has a safety feature to stop small hands from being able to release it. The foot beds are also adjustable up and down to suit different leg lengths without the requirement for tools, and the leg holding parts of the seat inspire confidence since they cup your child's legs keeping them well protected. The seat can be removed easily from the bike, and has a locking mechanism that you can also match up to other Thule locks you might have (roofracks, bike carriers etc.). If I had a criticism of the design, it would be that the seat is quite reclined when attached to the stem of the bike. This angles the seat back towards your chest/stomach, so depending on the size and design of your bike frame, you may find that the seat (or your kids head) intrudes upon your space. Other seats like this one (Yepp, Bobike etc) also recline a little, but not as much as this one. It wouldn't be a problem on a comfort style bike since that is inherently more upright, but if you have a mountain bike less than a size large, then you might have issues. I am 6 foot, and have a large frame, and it was ok. Having said all of this, I had to send it back simply because the adapter supplied clamps around your stem riser and requires around 25mm of space (because it is approx 25mm thick). I only have 20mm of spacers under my stem which I could remove, so with the seat fitted there was not enough room to get my stem back on the riser properly. Annoying really, because it if had fitted, I would have kept it. It's worth nothing that other seat manufacturers produce an Ahead specific adapter for their products which only requires around 4mm of stem riser space, so one of these might be more suitable for you if you have the same restriction I had. If not then this seat is a good option.
