"The best of" Giant's 2008/2008.5 range

Giant bikes logo

The Giant range of bikes is amazing in its breadth. From the race ready carbon whippets in the TCR range, the all mountain conquering Reign series to the car beating Escape bikes...

The Giant range has a bike to suit every need and pocket.

The choice of Giant bikes isn't getting smaller either, as they try to cover every possible niche in the market with a high quality affordable bike.

To help find your way through this massive range, we've singled out some of the notable new bikes in the Giant stable and asked where they fit into the world of Giant bicycles.

We've also hand picked our favourite Giant bikes. We honestly love some of these rides and we'll share just why below.

New Giant models and upgrades:

Giant CRS 3 FS

The CRS 3 FS is Giant's answer to those who want to be able to go fast, in comfort, on tarmac and over rougher ground. The sporty new CRS frame is married to a front suspension system that'll make the transition from tarmac to off road as smooth as possible. Perfect for those whose commute or weekend ride will take in a bit of both. Ladies CRS 3.0 version available.

Giant Escape R8

The Giant Escape R8 takes all of the utility, control and downright coolness of the urban Escape range – and puts bigger wheels on it. Bigger wheels makes it easier to go faster for longer. We like fast!

Giant FCR 2.5

The FCR 2.5 is a plugging the gaps bike from Giant. Taking the cue from the overall aim of the FCR range, to offer a great alternative to the gym or the car and pricing it between the FCR 2.0 and the FCR 3.0. It has the same great frame, big tyres, carbon fork as the rest of them.

Giant Boulder

The Giant Boulder is a longstanding favourite with first time mountain bikers and commuters looking for a robust way to get around. 2008 sees it receiving a bit of a polish. Improved components (a heavier Shimano presence), and a flash new paint job is sure to see the Boulder leading the way in the entry level MTB field for at least another year.

Giant Rainer

The Giant Rainer is a brand new mountain bike to add to Giant's already vast selection. This comes somewhere between the Yukon and the Terrago, offering a bike that is perfect for someone looking to start their mountain biking to the next level. Hydraulic disc brakes and four inches of plush suspension should give you the confidence to go further.

Giant CRS Zero

The Giant CRS Zero or CRS 0, is another brand new bike. A premium level entry in their ever popular CRS urban/commuting range of bicycles. This is seriously well specced hybrid. Shimano Deore and 105 components and the brand spanking new CRS aluminium frame makes for a very fast and reliable town bike that'll keep you entertained on the weekends too.

Tredz' Giant favourites:

Giant SCR 2.0

The Giant SCR 2.0 is one of the most popular road bikes around for men and women. No surprise at that price, that spec and it's out and out capability. You'll see first timers grinning their way into the sport, mile hardened roadies training their way to the podium and commuters beating cars to work on the SCR 2.0. It's a comfortable road bike, with plenty of performance. At the price you can't beat it.

Giant Trance 3

The Giant Trance 3 is an incredibly accessible, affordable trail mountain bike. Which is a little surprising when you consider some of the technology that's gone into it. From the Maestro suspension (Giant has got this dialled in now – it is an awesome system) to the Avid and Fox components, this trail MTB reeks of quality. And did we mention that price?

Giant Terrago Disc

If the Trance 3 is a little bit of overkill, then how about the Giant Terrago Disc? This bike has introduced countless people to the joys of off-road cycling. The 100mm lock out forks, Shimano Deore drive train and hydraulic discs ensure you won't be caught short. The Terrago Disc will safely take you as far as you want to go.

Giant FCR 3.0

The Giant FCR 3 will take you out of the gym and into the real world, and no excuse for women! We promise you'll have more fun on one of these things in a hour than a month of gym time. Their low maintenance, high comfort and speed will make this one workout you keep coming back to. Besides that the FCR range of bikes will make it across a congested town quicker than just about everything else too.

Giant CRS 4.0

The Giant CRS 4 (and in women's model) is one of the stalwarts of the entire Giant series. The reason? It really is the simplicity of it. There's practically nothing that can go wrong on it, it's as reliable as they come and comfortable too. Your commute, your shop, your weekend rides... You'll find yourself doing everything with your CRS 4.

Giant Escape M1

The Giant Escape M1 takes city living seriously. The 26" wheels will get you away at the green light quicker than any car – and with that speed you'll find yourself needing those hydraulic discs. But the real reason we love this bike at Tredz is pretty vain. It's just a stunning looking bike, from the simple frame, the flat handlebars to the minimalist paintjob. Picture yourself cruising on an Escape M1, past the cars with a grin and the sun on your face... You get the idea.

Giant Yukon

The Giant Yukon and Yukon Ladies are one of our best selling mountain bikes, possibly our very best selling. The low price, great components (from the likes of Hayes and Shimano), and Giant build quality means it isn't difficult to recommend it to customers. Fact is we don't usually have to. Especially those customers looking for an ultra reliable and fun way to get into mountain biking.

Giant Reign X1

The Giant Reign X is simply an awesome all mountain bike that was never going to get left of this list. 6.7 inches of Maestro inspired travel and Hayes Stroker disc brakes will allow you to steam roll over the most treacherous downhills. Hardly any pedal bob and a lighter than you'd expect frame will help you get up those fireroads in no time too. A low bottom bracket and grippy tyres will improve your cornering no end too. We could go on...
