Antur Stiniog Mountain Bike Centre

There’s a lot going on in Wales when it comes to new mountain bike facilities. Gethin Woods in Merthyr Tydfil is getting a brand new trail centre that looks like it could become one of the best in the UK, Afan has recently acquired a new green graded trail and in the North, a development called Antur Stiniog has risen from the slate hills of Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Antur Stiniog is a much needed regeneration to the area of Blaenau after years of slate mining has dwindled and is part of a larger development called Eryri Snowdonia. This European funded development also covers ‘the original’ trail centre, Coed-y-Brenin, so we might get to ride some new trails there in the future as well.

What’s on offer:

Uplift service – estimated at around £25 a day, the uplift will take just SEVEN minutes to get from the bottom to the top of the trails. That has to be the fastest in the UK, meaning you are looking at 15 plus runs in a day – if you are physically able.

A dedicated visitor centre – Showers, a shop, changing rooms and toilets are amongst the mod-cons you’d expect and Antur delivers.

Four downhill/freeride tracks – rated red and black at the moment. However this isn’t finalised. But the wide open fresh trails should be rideable by most competent mountain bikers.

XC trail – coming next year will be a spectacular trail which will wind its way around the the local Tan-y-grisau lake, making Antur a true must visit mountain bike centre.

The Antur Stiniog centre is due to open on the weekend of the 21st of this month and it’s definitely a trip you need to arrange. But until then, here’s a preview:
