Fort William 2012
The Downhill World Cup at Fort William has always been the event I want to make it to in the seasons calendar and always seem to miss out on. I’m making up for it this year by racing Megavalanche and going out to watch the Les 2 Alpes Crankworx but this year looked like a bad one to miss the Fort Bill race… event!
The Girls
The weather and midges aside (which I have heard were legendary this year), it looked like a weekend of top-notch racing. Tracy Moseley did a run of the course on Friday with the Olympic torch (shame we couldn’t see DH in the Olympics), but she only managed a 5th place on Sunday. Emmeline Ragot took the win by 1.35 seconds from fastest qualifier, Rachel Atherton.

The Guys
A great day for the Brits in the men’s cat – Marc Beaumont managed to qualify first but a bent rotor ultimately led to the end of his race. Sam Dale and Matt Simmonds had a good finish as did Gee Atherton who landed on the third podium. None of the top riders could take ‘the machine’ that is Aaron Gwin, but Giant factory rider Danny Hart narrowly missed out by just 0.08 seconds. Hart is really starting to shine as a DH rider and it’s great to see young British talent in the top ten. (Someone please make it an Olympic sport – we’d win loads of golds!)

If you don’t know, all the world cup DH races are broadcasted live on Red Bull TV so whereever the racing is, you can watch online. If you missed the action, head over to Dirt Magazine to watch the replay.
