Specialized Allez 2013 review

Specialized are one of the best bike brands out there for a reason – they constantly enhance their winning formula for making outstanding bikes and have a complete passion for cycling (something we’ve got in common with them!).

The Allez 2013 is no exception to the high quality we’ve come to expect from Specialized and even though it’s classed as an entry level road bike, it’s not short on style, substance and performance. If you’re just getting into road cycling, the Allez 2013 would be a great starting place as it has a good enough spec to last you until you’re ready to upgrade.

On the downside, 16 gears isn’t the widest range available. The Axis Classic rims, front and rear hubs and spokes provided will get you by, but you can always upgrade to lighter components in the future. However, the complete Shimano 2300 groupset is a higher-than average touch and the Specialized Espoir Sport tyres are a nice addition, with a slick centre and outer tread for great grip in both dry and wet conditions. The Allez’s frame is also light but still sturdy, being constructed from Specialized A1 Premium Aluminium and the bottom bracket has increased stiffness.

In summary, this is a great entry level road bike, with super fast geometry and a better than average spec. It’s also good value for money whilst still feeling like a high performance bike. We approve!
