    Good pannier but poor clips

I had previously used Altura panniers for many years and been really pleased with them. However, I was disappointed to find that the new Arc design is now fitted with a different type of mounting clips that do not have the inserts to adjust for rack tube diameter. The result (on my Blackburn rack) is that the pannier was a very loose fit and would have rattled around over any rough surfaces. Also the clips are not adjustable sideways which is annoying as you can't position the pannier where you want it for heel clearance. So regrettably I'm sending it back. One more point, that also applies to this and other Altura panniers I have used: There are domed nuts sticking out on the inside of the pannier that fix the lower retaining clip. These can cause damage to anything vulnerable esp. maps and books etc that are chafing against them when riding. I once got a small nut-shaped hole through the middle of my best map, during just one ride! This could be easily prevented by adding an internal panel of a lightweight hollow plastic board. I did this on my previous Altura panniers, using a bit of discarded temporary plastic sign board I found lying in the road. It worked a treat, but why can’t the manufacturers think of this? It’s not rocket science! Come on Altura, get your design team on the case. You have some brilliant products, just let down by lack of attention to details. And bring back the fully adjustable rack mounts clips!
