What is a bike rack?
A bike rack is a great way of carrying your luggage around on your bike, making them perfect for commuting, touring or family adventures. The rack fits securely to your bike, eliminating the need for a rucksack to burden your back. Racks are easily fitted and removed, so they don’t have to stay in place all the time.
Who needs a bike rack?
Anyone who carries luggage. Whether you’re cycling to work, sightseeing or having a few days away, bike racks are ideal for bearing the brunt of the load. A bike rack is also a great idea for those who suffer from back pain or that find rucksacks uncomfortable.
What are the choices?
There are two locations for bike racks, at the front and rear of your bike. Both can be used to carry luggage. Choose from strong, durable material that is as light as possible. You’ll also need to check that the rack will fit to your bike without getting in the way of any of the components.
What should I buy with it?
The choice of accompanying baggage is endless. Pick from a small, compact bag for occasional jaunts, double panniers for a weekend away or multi-compartment bag to keep yourself organised.
Anything else?
Check the load capacity of your rack – you don’t want to set off and leave a trail of spilt luggage in your wake. Or worse, damage your bike because you’ve packed everything AND the kitchen sink.
