Way too fiddily

The bag itself is well built and attractive but there are too many negatives for me too use it regularly. Number one is the pieces of Velcro used to attach the bottom of the bag to your cycle rack. They are not attached to the bag in any way and are easy to drop and lose. The last thing you want to do when you get somewhere is to spend 10 minutes trying to untangle your bag. I''m also not a fan of the external pockets when backpacking, as they are incredibly easy for pickpockets to access- and there are no internal pockets for your phone, keys or wallet.

Excellent backpack

I bought it to use as a backpack so can't really comment on how it works as a pannier. As a backpack it's comfortable to carry, looks great (I think) & has enough space for everything I need - or think I need - to carry on a regular basis. Internally it's really just a big empty space except for a useful laptop sleeve - which I use for my note book (as in the old-fashioned sort that you write things down in with a pen!!). There's plenty of space remainig in the main compartment for pencil case, change of clothes (when cycling to work), waterproof etc. The front pockets are a useful size & comfortably take my diary, multi-tool, keys etc. The side bottle pockets seem a little shallow but nothing's ever fallen out of them so I guess they're OK. Build quality seems good & I like the combination of black technical material (Cordura?) with the old world waxed canvas (brown bits). The shoulder straps are comfortable & I like the adjustable sternum strap. The daisy chain/molle attachments down the back seem a little limited in use but can be used to attach multiple rear lights (should you so wish) or to hold a u-lock if you thread the "u" bit through it. I've carried it once in the rain & the waxed canvas/roll top design worked fine & everything remained dry. I like it & would happily recommend it to anyone. The service from Tredz was excellent & trouble free :)

Does what it says on the tin

Great bag, really sturdy and lots of different pockets which is handy. Unlike a lot of pannier bags I'm happy to use this one daily and it doesn't look to 'panniery'

Pannier Bags Guide

What are pannier bags?

Pannier bags hang from the sides of luggage racks and enable you to carry heavy loads with minimal fuss. A pannier either side evenly distributes weight and lowers the bike’s centre of gravity, although you can just use one for smaller loads.

Who needs pannier bags?

Panniers are great for commuting, as you can fit in everything you need – a change of clothes, shoes, lunch, laptop, files, etc. On a grander scale, panniers are the ideal accompaniment for touring adventures, as the equivalent of a suitcase.

What are the choices?

The pannier choice is vast, from attractive designs to classic colour schemes. Waterproofing is an obvious factor, to prevent soggy luggage. Panniers with straps mean you can easily transfer them from the bike and use as a bag and plenty of pockets or separate compartments make organisation a doddle.

What should I buy with them?

Panniers need a rack to hang from. If you’re hanging one at the front, you’ll need oversized bars. At the back, you’ll need eyelets in the frame for a rack or you can find quick release racks, although these carry less weight.

Anything else?

Panniers make a great alternative to backpacks when it comes to preventing back injuries.
