Incorporating our special wear resistant carbon compound, the tyre is characterized by very good mileage performance as well as excellent adhesion on wet roads and at low temperatures.

With 23, 25, 28 & 32mm versions, the Grand Prix 4-Season makes it possible to select the right tyre for various road qualities, type of bike and comfort requirements. A double Vectran™ Breaker belt under the tread raises the puncture and cut protection to the highest level available on the market. Featuring a total of five plies beneath the tread, plus a sixth Duraskin layer, it's ideal for rough sportives and general bad road conditions.

"Puncture resistance is way above that offered by the fastest race tyres yet rolling resistance feels pretty similar. Grip is excellent, particularly in the wet." Grand Prix 4 Season - 9/10 - Cyclist.co.uk

My best tyre yet

I cannot say enough good things about these tires, they are supple, corner well, durable and (as long I keep the pressure above 90psi) I never have to worry about punctures. Value for money for a regular cyclist : since they last longer than anything else I have ridden previously. An investment with your contact with the ground !

Build to expectation

The supposed "all-rounder" is just that - you can use it for any occasion, and as the name suggest, in any season. I bought this as winter training/commuting wheels, but found them just as quick, if not quicker, than the usual Vittoria Rubino Pro, and since the 4-seasons run at a lower psi, it was also comfier. However, compared to its in-house rival, the Gatorskin, the 4-season do have some drawbacks. It is more expensive, and it uses a softer compound which means it will last shorter. However, the softer compound does mean better cornering in wet conditions. Of course, the 4-season uses the same protection system as the Gatorskin, so you're sure that punctures will be infrequent.

Conti 4 seasons

I like these tyres, and was recommended to use them by a friend. I like the security of a treaded tyre when the roads are wet.

Solid Tyre

Good choice for reliable use through the rougher months. Not quite the grip of a summer slick as you'd expect but good enough to maintain confidence with just the odd squirm. Puncture resistance good breached only by the odd flint from the dreaded surface dressing which is probably inevitable. All in all recommended.

How to check your current tyre size?

Take a look at the sidewall of your current tyres and you’ll see one or two sets of figures;

One is the traditional size like 700x28c or 27.5x2.2. The first figure is the tyre diameter(size). The second is tyre width. Note: road bike sizes are in mm, MTB sizes are in inches.

The other set of figures you may see is ETRTO sizing like this 28-622. The first number here is tyre width while the second number relates to wheel diameter.

Here is a comparrison chart for traditional and ETRTO sizing to help you choose the correct tyre size.

Will this tyre fit my wheel?

Your new tyre must be the same diameter as your current one (to fit your wheel rim).

Then, you need a choose a tyre which will fit your frame.

Road bike tyres are generally 21 – 28mm wide

MTB tyres can range from 1.5”-5”

To make things complicated road tyres are measured in mm, while MTB tyres are in inches.

How wide is too wide

You want to leave at least 4mm clearance between your frame and tyres to prevent rub and allow for mud clearance.

Measure the following areas on your frame:

Fork crown (top)

Brake calipers (make sure you squeeze them)

Chainstays

Seatstays

Subtract 4mm and you’ll have the maximum width your frame can handle.

Continental Tyre Guide

Continental Road Bike Tyre Guide

With over 100 years of manufacturing experience, Continental road bike tyres have been tried and tested at the very highest level. See the range of technologies that give their clincher and tubular road bike tyres a performance edge.

Compounds

Black Chili Compound

Black Chili is Continental’s premium rubber compound for both road and mountain bike tyres. It offers more grip with less rolling resistance and even lasts longer than other rubber compounds.

Pure Grip Compound

Pure Grip is a performance rubber compound that sits just below Black Chili. An Activated Silica rubber compound, Pure grip offers excellent traction, is also long lasting and highly durable. Used on both road and mountain bike tyres, Pure Grip is produced in Continental’s Chinese factory.

Tyre Types & Protection

PlusBreaker

These tyres offer the highest level of puncture protection against objects piercing the tread. Plus Breaker is a layer of special highly elastic rubber sits just underneath the tread. This successfully stops all types of foreign objects from getting through to the inner tube below. Even a drawing pin can’t get through the PlusBreaker layer.

PolyX Breaker

PolyX Breaker is a densely woven Polyester fibre layer that sits beneath the tread of the tyre. The polyester fibre layer is tightly woven crosswise and is extremely resistant to foreign objects penetrating through the casing. This puncture reducing technology does not adversely affect rolling resistance.

Vectran Breaker

Vectran breaker represents the pinnacle in puncture protection. Highly resistant to puncture and cuts, Vectran breaker doesn’t slow the tyre down. Vectran is a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) that is spun from Vectra liquid polymer and processed into a multistrand thread. Vectran has an enormous tear resistance at a very low weight and offers the ultimate under-the-tread protection.

DuraSkin

DuraSkin is an ultra-lightweight cut resistant sheath that wraps around the tyre casing. Designed to protect the sidewalls and tread from actual cuts and slashes on the road, this technology is found in all Gatorskin tyres. DuraSkin tyres stand out with their brown sidewalls.

Hardshell

With a wider PolyX breaker layer combined with DuraSkin sidewalls, Hardshell-ProTection offers outstanding puncture protection. The three-ply layer with 60 TPI carcass covers the entire tyre and makes it a real bastion against urban detritus. Hardshell tyres are the flagship puncture protection racing tyres.

Supersonic

Lightweight for maximum acceleration, Supersonic tyres are ideal for track and time trials.

NyTech Breaker

Sitting between the SafetySystem and PolyX Breaker, NyTech offers more effective puncture protection for performance tyres. The Nylon fabric is highly resistant to cuts and punctures but offers low rolling resistance and reduced weight.
