Product Description

Race for the podium. The Giant Propel Advanced SL 0 is an aero race bike that combines a full integrated aerodynamic package with the consistent all-weather speed control of disc brakes. Built for real world road racing the Propel Advanced SL offers stiff efficiency and nimble handling you need to maximize your performance while still offering a great ride feel.

Key Features:

  • Advanced SL-Grade carbon composite frame with cutting edge aero properties
  • Full carbon fork is designed as crucial part of the integrated aerodynamic package
  • Shimano Dura Ace Di2 2x11 speed drivetrain for quick shifting precision
  • Shimano Dura Ace hydraulic disc brakes for all-weather stopping power
  • Giant SLR 0 carbon aero WheelSystem for more aero gains
  • Sizes: Small, Medium, Medium/Large, Large, X Large
  • Colours: Metallic Blue/Black
  • The Giant Propel Advanced SL 0 Disc is available with 0% APR finance

Please note: All Giant SL Models are equipped with an integrated seatpost. This is a part of the frame so great care must be taken when cutting to size. As rider position and set up is so personal, a professional bike fit is required to ensure the seat post is trimmed to the correct position/height.

Launch your attack. Sprint for the win. This composite aero rocketship combines AeroSystem Shaping Technology with disc brake integration. The result: control, efficiency and race-winning speed.

Integrated aerodynamics: AeroSystem Shaping, a result of CFD analysis and dynamic wind tunnel testing, optimises aerodynamic performance at every yaw angle. The truncated ellipse aerofoil tube shapes and Contact SLR Aero cockpit help produce the best overall aero performance.

Total control: Integrated disc brakes deliver powerful stopping power and modulation for added control in variable weather. Thru-axles boost stiffness and improve overall handling and an integrated WheelSystem with a 65mm rear rim and 42mm front rim optimises aerodynamics and control.

Unrivalled efficiency: Advanced SL-grade composite frameset features Giant’s highest performance materials and manufacturing processes for optimised stiffness and the lowest weight in its category.

Advanced SL Composite Technology

Professional-grade raw carbon material is woven in our own composite factory using our most advanced engineering and construction methods including: Continuous Fibre Technology to add strength while reducing weight; Carbon Nanotube Technology resin to improve impact resistance; and Fusion Process for lighter, stronger frame junctions.

AeroSystem Shaping Technology

Through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and wind tunnel data, engineers optimise each tube shape to deliver superior aerodynamic performance.

OverDrive 2

The most advanced steerer tube technology in today’s Giant bikes. Designed to offer unprecedented front-end steering performance, the system’s oversized headset bearings (1 1/2” lower, 1 1/4” upper) and tapered steerer tube work in harmony to provide supreme steering stiffness.

RideSense

Giant’s chain stay-integrated, wireless data transmitter. The removable transmitter sends wheel speed and cadence information directly to any ANT+ or Bluetooth compatible computer.

Giant Tubeless System

Integrated Tubeless WheelSystem and tyres delivers improved efficiency, comfort and control in the most user-friendly and reliable system.

Integrated Seatpost

Designed as a key performance factor in the overall frameset, the integrated seatpost saves up to 45 grams compared to standard composite posts, while improving aerodynamics and adding road smoothing compliance. The seat post is also supplied with three variations of spacers, if the saddle height is still lower than the target height. The three spacer sizes are: 10mm, 5mm, and 3mm.

Road Bike Guide

Road Bike Guide

Is a Road Bike Right for Me?

If you’re new to the cycling world, we highly recommend taking a look at our bike buying guide overview or our road bike buying guide to help you decide what type of bike is right for your needs.

When you’re choosing a road bike, there are a few things to look out for which can help you work out the quality and performance you can expect from a particular model.

Usage

What road bike is right for you? There are a few different kinds of road bike, and they all have their specialities. We break down their strengths and usage in an easy to read table below.

Type of Road Bike

Usage

Pros

Cons

Sportive Road

Long distance, training, sportive and endurance riding, as well as rough roads.

Comfortable, relaxed geometry is more accessible for riders new to road cycling.

Not as aggressive or stiff, so serious racers may look for a road race bike.

Road Race

Racing and training.

Lightweight, aggressive geometry for most efficient riding position.

Range limited to tarmac roads and cycle paths.

Aero Race

Road and criterium racing.

Aero dynamically efficient and fast. Stiff frames and aggressive geometry.

Heavier than road race bikes.

Flat Bar Road

Training and commuting. Comfortable, fast city riding.

Upright riding position is great for training and city riding.

Limited options of bikes. MTB-like position not great for racing.

Frame Material

The vast majority of road bikes are made from either aluminium alloy or carbon fibre. Alloy bikes can offer higher tier groupsets for a lower price, whereas carbon frames come at a significant premium, but are lighter and give that extra performance advantage.

Aluminium

Aluminium alloy frames
Alloy frames have come a long way recently, using hydroforming and butting to keep the weight low, while keeping stiffness high.

Carbon fibre

Carbon fibre composite frames
Carbon frames have a lighter weight and greater stiffness, while maintaining excellent comfort.

Fork

Road bike forks are made to be lightweight and stiff, giving accurate steering, as well as a comfortable ride. Budget road bikes will have alloy forks, whereas mid-range forks often have mix-material forks, with alloy steerer tubes and carbon fork blades. Carbon bladed forks deliver a more comfortable ride, absorbing road vibrations and flexing slightly in rough roads. Full carbon forks are found on high end road bikes. They are especially lightweight and offer even greater stiffness.

Groupset

A bike’s groupset, or drivetrain, is where the biggest difference in component quality is seen. A complete groupset comprises of the following parts:

  • Chainset (aka Crankset)
  • Bottom bracket
  • Brakes
  • Brake levers
  • Shifters
  • Front & rear derailleur
  • Chain
  • Cassette

Road groupsets are supplied by Shimano, SRAM or Campagnolo. Having reliable and fast shifting can make all the difference when pushing hard. The majority of road bikes have double chainring drivetrains, while triple chainring setups are usually only found on low end bikes and touring bikes. Road bikes will have 7-11 speeds in the rear, with higher gears meaning more options for smoother riding.

Road Groupsets

Brakes

Disc Brakes

Disc brakes
Disc brakes offer greater stopping power and modulation. They work as well in wet as dry weather, and don’t require the rims to be replaced periodically. They come at a weight penalty, however.

Calliper Rim Brakes

Calliper rim brakes
Rim brakes are lightweight and easy to maintain. They allow greater aerodynamics for aero road bikes and

Wheels & Tyres

Types of tyres

Road bikes tyres don’t vary as much as mountain bike or even hybrid, but they still make a huge difference to how the bike rides. For a detailed look into road bike tyres, see our guide.

Road tyres have long been offered as either clincher or tubular. Clincher tyres are the standard tyres that fit onto standard rims with a tube holding the air. Tubular tyres are glued to a special tubular rim and are fully encased, doing without a tube.

Tubeless tyres are now a feature of road bikes, delivering a compromise between tubular and clincher tyres. They look the same as clincher tyres, but pair up with special rims to offer a proper seal within the tyres, also doing away with tubes.

Tyre Size

Road tyres are traditionally quite narrow. Nowadays the accepted standard is 25c, but 23c and 28c tyres are very common too. The larger the size tyre, the more comfortable they will be, but they will also be heavier and potentially slower rolling. Sportive and flat bar road bikes will commonly have wider tyres, whereas race and aero road bike will tend towards narrower tyres.
