Product Description

Gusset Mix n Match Headsets
Once upon a time in a land far far away there lived a wise old Blacksmith and this Blacksmith made a wonderful machine called a Bicycle. He declared that all bicycles should use the same standard size parts as his invention and from thence forth everyone lived happily ever after.
    • Unfortunately for many of us this story isn’t true and just like a great myth having easy standard sizes for headsets seems to have been exploded. Having to buy 2 headsets and to make their own custom combo has become an expensive solution for many mortals recently.
    • Fear not though ! Gusset have a NEW range of 7 separate lowers and 3 separate uppers which are ready to fend-off over 30 of the combinations of head tube and fork sizes that frame/bike makers are likely to throw at you.
    • R-series headsets are the perfect choice for those looking for a top quality precision headset with lightweight CNC alloy cups, premium grade bearings and fine tuning technical features that are not included on most other headsets.
    • Gusset R- series headsets are great headsets in their own right, are very competitively priced and are available in combinations that are bound to be useful.
    Features :
    • Precision CNC machined 6061 T6 alloy cups.
    • WOOdman custom cartridge bearings (with almost double the bearing fill and durability of std. cartridge bearings)
    • HA Plate micro-adjust top-cap shims (As not all frames are created equal, this allows fine tuning of the height gap over the headtube.)
    • SGC Steel ring reinforced split crown race (for easy installation with deformation).
    • 1.5 lowers include 11/8 adaptor crowns (as not everyone runs 1.5 or Taper forks)

Headsets Guide

What are headsets?

Your bike’s headset is the pivot point between the fork and frame – it’s essentially a set of bearings that allows the fork to turn freely when you move the handlebars.

Who needs a headset?

Although you can sometimes just replace the bearings in your headset when they wear out, sometimes it can be cheaper and more economical to just replace the whole headset.

What are the choices?

Older-style bike have a traditional quill headset, which grips an L-shaped stem that slots or threads straight into the steerer tube. Most modern bikes have an aheadset, though, which the stem sits on top of and clamps the steerer tube. Headsets can be external, integrated or internal, depending on how the bearings fit around or inside the frame’s head tube. You will need to get the right sort to fit your frame.

What should I buy with them?

Headsets usually need a bit of quality bike grease when you fit them, so don’t forget to buy it. They also need expensive headset pressing tools, so it might be best to get your local bike mechanic to fit your new headset.

Anything else?

Under no circumstances should you try to fit a new headset without the right tools. You could cause damage that writes off your valuable bike frame.
