Liv women’s sport pedals

Any reason why a male size 9 feet cannot use these pedals given the oversize appearance normal male pedals give to a road bike?

Found at Last

Physiologically my wife can't use clipless pedals but all the other flat pedals we've tried were either huge or lasted no time at all. These pedals are perfect for women's size shoes (she uses MTB cycling shoes but without the cleats fitted) and look so much better on a road bike. We're so glad we finally discovered these and have just ordered another pair for the winter bike.

Liv Women's sport pedals- also for kids

Purchased these for my 5 year old's cube 200 bike. The standard pedals on kids bikes are shocking and have very poor grip. My daughter use to slip off the standard pedals quite easily, which resulted in her either falling off her bike or gaining frequent painful shin strikes. Found these, which are smaller than any other platform pedal (including standard kids pedal). They seem solidly built, fairly light and the grip is very, very good. Positives: look great, solid build, fairly light, very very good grip (greatly reduced chance of slipping off), small platform so great replacement for kids bikes. Negatives: only choice of two colours, if your child does slip off these pedals it'll cause more pain/trauma due to their metal stud design (than standard plastic kids pedals)

Great Alternative to Clips

I have struggled to get to grips with clip-less road peddles for 18 months. After several stationary tumbles and a bad accident I threw in the towel. These peddles are perfect for a road bike as they are not too big like most MTB peddles. They don't look out of place at all. The pins provide excellent grip and standing up on the peddles is not a problem as your foot feels secure. They have helped improve my riding confidence and (despite popular belief) seem to have had no negative effect on speed as I recently beat my PB with them. They are quite small so you do need to make sure you place your foot in the correct position when pulling off, but as I am used to this from using the clip-less pedals it's not been an issue. These have really helped me to re-build my cycling confidence and I hope I will eventually be able to go back to clip-less.

Happy Purchase

I bought these to replace the resin pedals that came with my bike due to bearing wear. The bearings on these pedals are sealed so hopefully will give a longer service. They also give very excellent grip, although I have not yet cycled in the rain. I prefer them to cage pedals due to my lack of coordination when putting my feet in and out of cages. Due to the good grip on these pedals you cannot shuffle your feet about so easily as with resin pedals which is good so your feet do not slip so it took me 3 - 4 rides to get used to positioning my feet easily from a standing start. The dimensions are smaller for a woman's foot so be aware compared to other platform pedals. They come with small tools for tightening the studs when necessary. I spoke to Tredz to enquire about replacement studs if ever needed and was told they would source them if possible when asked. So yes I can recommend these pedals if like me you are cleat and cage shy!

Platform Pedals Guide

Platform Pedals Guide

Platform pedals, often known as flat pedals are the pedal of choice for most cyclists. Away from the standard type seen on leisure and commuter bikes, there is a wide range of more specific mountain bike and BMX pedals.
Flat pedals have a loyal following amongst DH, freeride and trail riders who like the flexibility of not being attached to the pedal. Being able to dab a foot, adjust position and jump off the bike quickly is invaluable.

While power transfer will not be as high as a clipless pedal, modern pedals are incredibly grippy. Adjustable pins mean a rider and dial in the feel for them, a wide platform gives full support across a large surface area, and the solid construction can handle the abuse taken from rock strikes.

Pins

Pins grip the sole of your shoe to keep your foot in place while still giving you the freedom to take your foot off whenever you like. The pedal body is generally made of reinforced nylon or aluminium for greater durability.

Often they are adjustable in length with a small allen key. Some riders prefer the pins to dig into the shoe for ultimate grip, others prefer to be able to reposition their foot by having the pins less pronounced from the platform.

DMR Pedals with replaceable pins

These are particularly good for control when you're riding off-road on tricky terrain. The main advantage of flat pedals is you aren't attached to your bike, so can get your foot down with ease.

Pins are replaceable on the higher-end models. Some higher-end pedals have features like grease ports and magnesium or titanium construction to save weight.

Shape & Size

They come in different shapes and sizes some with a more concave shape to suit rider preference.
Platform pedals come in different sizes that suit diferent sized feet and give different levels of support.
The pedal body itelf can have different profile. A low profile pedal will offer more clearence from ground strikes and give better power transfer, while a high profile pedal will likely be more robust and contail larger bearings and be easier to service.

  • Simple and effective
  • Easy to bail from the bike
  • Specific shoe not essential
  • Limited winter specific flat pedal shoes
  • Feet can be blown off on rough terrain
  • Thicker pedals can strike the ground on rough terrain
Two Crank Brothers pedals differ in shape and size

Axles

Steel or Titanium can be used for the axle with the latter being much lighter. Mid and High-range pedals run on sealed cartridge bearings with many seals for long-lasting performance.
Mid to high range pedals can be seried by the user, often there is a combination of bearngs and bushings used internally. Brands like Crank Bros, Nukeproof and DMR will sell service kits making it possible to do this at home.

Axle material can make a big impact on pedal weight
