Happy feet

Purchased 3 pairs of these Northwave socks with the aim of keeping my feet warmer when combined with shoes and overshoes - cheaper option for now than buying winter boots. The mid-length provides comfort with overshoes when not wearing leggings as the zip isn't against the skin. It's not yet been cold enough to test them on my commute/weekend ride in freezing temperatures but I'm sure they'll be good for a couple of hours on the mountain bike. They stay in place but I'm yet to wear them without overshoes. They are comfortable socks so might just wear them around the house too!

Socks Guide

What are cycling socks?

Cycling socks have technical properties to provide warmth, wick away moisture and give a bit of extra padding where you need it while riding.

Who needs cycling socks?

Any cyclist will benefit from cycling-specific socks – they’re designed totally around cyclists’ requirements, so every cyclist will find them more comfortable than regular socks.

What are the choices?

Some cyclists like long socks, some prefer ankle socks, so the choices reflect this. There are also different socks for summer and winter. You can even get totally waterproof socks, for warm, dry feet when it’s teeming.

What should I buy with them?

More socks – you need more than one pair of cycling socks, that’s why they’re often supplied in multipacks. Wearing the same socks more than once in cycling, as in real life, is a total no-no.

Anything else?

Cycling shoes can have quite a tight fit, so especially with winter socks, make sure you leave enough room for your socks to avoid discomfort.
