    Bags Guide

    Bags Guide

Cycling bags come in many shapes & sizes and are made for different purposes.

    Bags for the Bike

Whether you are cycle touring, bike packing or commuting to work, bags for the bike are the best way to carry your luggage while you cycle. Carrying your things in bags on your bike leaves your body free to cycle unencumbered.

    Saddle Bags

Attached to the back of your saddle with clips or Velcro straps, saddle bags are the most popular type of cycle bag for road cycling. Small discrete saddle bags won’t affect the aero of your bike too much and are ideal for shorter journeys when you only need the essentials. From here the size goes all the way up to 16litre seat packs that will hold enough kit for touring and bike packing.

    Pannier Bags

Pannier bags are designed to clip on to a bike rack and are a stable way to carry a lot of luggage on your bike. If you have a luggage rack fitted to your bike it is very easy to add pannier bags. Simple to clip on and off, they’re a great choice for commuting as well as cycle touring. Front pannier bags require a front pannier rack that attaches to your fork.

    Handlebar Bags

Strapped onto the bars of your bike, handlebar bags are great for touring and bike packing as well as urban cycling. Roll type handlebar bags are best for bike packing, especially wider ones that work nicely with flat bars. Rectangular bags are a better choice for commuting and touring as they offer easy access, some even double up as map holders. Smaller handlebar bags for hybrid bikes are perfect for urban shopping trips.

Attached to the frame of your bike these bags expand the carrying capacity of your bike. Small top tube bags are very accessible, and many include clear phone pockets for easy access to navigation apps. Simple straps allow you to carry a tools and a tube, great for mountain biking and bike packing.

    Trunk & Rack Bags

Trunk or rack bags clip to the top of your rear luggage rack and can be used on their own or with pannier bags. If you want to carry more stuff than will fit in a standard saddle bag, then a rack bag is a great solution.

    Bags for the Body

The other way to transport your stuff while you cycle is to carry bags on your body. Carrying your stuff in a bag on your body is more convenient when you get off the bike.

Carrying a bag on your back is the easiest way to carry luggage while you cycle. Bike specific backpacks have straps that are designed to keep your bag secure as you ride. Waterproof backpacks with rolltop closures are best for very wet riding but rain covers can protect any bag from a shower. To improve your visibility when commuting look for a bag with Hi-Viz colours and reflective elements. Off-road backpacks have many pockets for easy and convenient access to your stuff.

    Hydration Bags

Hydration bags are backpacks or waist packs that have a water bladder and drinking hose that allows you to drink while you ride. You’ll find lots of handy compartments for storing ride essentials too. Carrying capacity varies but is usually smaller than a backpack. The bladder size varies from 1 – 3 litres. Many backpacks and waist packs are also compatible with hydration bladders, but only hydration bags are supplied with them.

    Waist Packs

Smaller than a backpack, waist packs are great for those shorter off-road rides when you only need to carry the essentials. The main advantages of a waist pack are the weight is kept low on your body, for better handling, and your back is free to breath, so you don’t get too sweaty.

    Courier Bags

Ideal for urban cycling, courier bags or messenger bags have a strap that slips over your shoulder for quick and easy access. Most courier bags have internal pockets for laptops or tablets, and many are made from waterproof materials to protect contents from the weather.

    Bags for Off the Bike

When you want to transport your bike and kit a dedicated bag will make life easier when you travel.

    Bike and Wheel Bags

Bike bags are for keeping your bike protected when you travel. Hard shell bike boxes and heavy-duty travel bags are best for flying with your bike. Bike rugs offer extra protection when storing your bike or carrying it in a car or van.

Wheel bags keep your wheels protected when they’re off the bike. They are made for single wheels or a pair.

    Helmet Bags & Holdalls

Helmet Bags keep your helmet safe and free from scratches as you travel.

For all your other luggage needs a holdall is ideal. Whether it’s your cycling kit in the back of the car or a carry-on flight bag these bags are for everything that’s not a bike.

    Dry Bags

Dry bags are a good addition to your cycle luggage wardrobe as they will ensure that your essentials will stay dry even if you cycle through a lake. Dry bags can fit inside other bags, so you can use them for all sports and adventures.
