Super little pressure gauge

I comparison-shopped a few digital pressure gauges and this 2nd generation SKS Air Checker had the edge - dual valve head is easy to use, the backlit display is easy to read and - despite other reviews to the contrary - it does actually give live pressure readings when using the deflate button. Very happy so far.

Goods Excellent but...

The actual unit is fine, does exactly what it says on the tin, looks good, lightweight. An essential bit of kit for us fat bike wallahs. The downside was that it took forever to turn up. I placed the order on a Friday and it arrived the following Thursday. Now bear in mind that I placed orders with Chain Reaction and Superstar at the exact same time, and theirs turned up on the Monday...both with free delivery...hmm...

Accurate and Lightweight

Weighing in at 45g with included CR2032 battery and measuring 11.4cm x 3.5cm x 2.0cm this digital gauge easily finds its way in to an ultralight toolrepair kit small enough to fit in a pocket. Easy to use the orange button used to bleed air from the tyre allows air pressure to be reduced to a specific setting without having to remove the gauge from the valve. I use this gauge where setting pressures accurately allows the tyres to perform at their best even if I get a flat out on a long ride.

Bike Pumps Guide

What are bike pumps?

A bike pump is essential for keeping your tyres inflated, preventing pesky pinch punctures and providing more efficient riding. Tyres gradually deflate even if your bike stays inactive for a while, so it’s good practice to top them up as often as you can.

Who needs a bike pump?

Anyone with a bike. A mini pump or CO2 cannister can be vital in getting you home after a puncture, or to work on time if you’re commuting.

What are the choices?

Traditional pumps are easy to use and inexpensive to buy. A hand pump is operated with a pumping action and is available in standard or mini size. Both types can be fitted to eyelets in your bike frame or smaller pumps will fit in a saddle bag. Track or floor pumps are great for the garage – inflating high psi levels in just a couple of movements. CO2 cannister instantly release air into your tyres and are diminutive in size.

What should I buy with it?

If your pump isn’t compatible the valve on your tyre (Presta or Schrader) you may need to buy an adaptor. CO2 cartridges require a small adaptor for use.

Anything else?

A gauge is a good way of seeing how much air you’ve added, preventing the dreaded pop sound from an overambitious inflation. Also, NEVER take CO2 cartridges with you on an aeroplane!
