What are energy drinks?

Energy drinks either give you a much needed boost of power during your ride or help you recover quickly afterwards. They are simple to use – simply dissolve the powder with water to the required measurements and you’re ready to go. It’s handy to keep a bottle of energy drink on your bike during a long ride.

Who needs energy drinks?

If you’re riding over 4 hours, it’s definitely a good idea to try energy products. They are formulated to give you specific amounts of carbohydrates and protein, but also give you the urge to drink more, keeping you hydrated.

What are the choices?

Energy drinks come in a wide range of flavours, fruity, exotic or interesting. There are lots of brands to choose from, so it’s really a case of finding the one that works best for you and also tastes the nicest.

What should I buy with it?

A bottle and cage set-up for your bike is ideal for keeping your energy drink close at hand. It’s not advisable to use energy drinks in a hydration pack as the sugar content will make it incredibly difficult to clean. Most brands have accompanying bottles with the measurements already on the side, so you can mix your drink and put it straight on your bike.
