Surly Bridge Club 2018 - Touring Bike
There are those who hear the phrase “bike touring” and immediately think of long-forgotten stretches of highway, small-town oddities, and roadside attractions. Some instantly recall desolate stretches of desert dirt roads or lush green forest trails. Others still, think “Why must you make me choose, o’ cruel disembodied voice? I want to have my dessert and eat it out of the world’s largest skillet too!”
And now, dear dirtbags, you can. Meet the Bridge Club.
As a highly versatile touring bike, Bridge Club perfectly hits the sweet spot that separates on- and off-road excursions. It accounts for both the planned and unplanned multi-surface outings, which, let’s face it, every tour ends up being. We’ve all run out the clock on a dirt tour and had to add in some paved shortcuts. With Bridge Club, those shortcuts won’t feel sluggish. You might even enjoy them! Conversely, if you’re feeling a little zesty on your next road tour, you won’t be ill-prepared for reroutes through the woods. The Bridge Club is designed to handle it all.
Bridge Club is ultra-focused on simplicity. We deliberately kept it leaner on braze-ons than some of our other touring bikes. It only has the barnacles that matter most to the discerning bike tourist like rack, fender, and Three-Pack mounts. This simple suite makes it fully adept to handle a full rack and pannier setup, frame bags, or any combination of the two. Run all of it together, bring all the comforts of home and still have plenty of room for souvenirs and cool rocks.
Bridge Club is disc brake-specific and uses a single position vertical rear dropout. That simplicity makes for a high-functioning touring bike that’s not as intimidating as other bikes in the category. To aid in its versatility, we designed it around 27.5 x 2.4” tires but it can handle up to 2.8s if you’re going a little further off the beaten path. We chose the 27.5” platform due to the cornucopia of tire offerings in both road and mountain flavours, furthering Bridge Club’s all-around touring abilities.
