Tacx IRONMAN Smart Trainer
The Tacx IRONMAN® Smart turbo trainer is the ‘Official Cycle-Mounting Trainer’ of IRONMAN®. Just like the Genius Smart, the Tacx IRONMAN Smart trainer uses the most advanced resistance unit and software which analyses performance and simulates bike courses very accurately. The wireless motor brake converts the properties of the terrain into resistance on the bike, in a highly realistic manner. The bike route is displayed on your screen.
The motor brake is able to apply a maximum power of 2000W to the back wheel. The slopes simulated are realistic up to 20% and down to -5% for descents. The Tacx IRONMAN Smart comes with the Upgrade Smart to connect to a Windows PC and use the Tacx Trainer software 4, Advanced, Skyliner front wheel support, Kona water bottle and the Tacx film of the IRONMAN World Championship bike course in Hawaii (for TTS 4, Advanced).
The Tacx IRONMAN Smart trainer communicates via ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart for convenient training sessions using your smartphone or tablet. Performance data can be viewed on several devices simultaneously, including your smartphone, bike computer and sports watch.
When the Tacx IRONMAN Smart turbo isn’t connected to a smartphone, tablet or computer, it behaves as a fluid trainer. This means the trainer behaves progressively: when your speed increases, the resistance increases as well. So it is possible to use this trainer in a “stand-alone” status.

Tacx IRONMAN® Smart
The Tacx IRONMAN Smart has been developed especially for triathletes and is extremely powerful and accurate. With its motor brake and virtual flywheel, this trainer offers a highly realistic cycling experience and is extremely suitable for long training sessions.
Powerful on long distance
The IRONMAN features a motor brake, the most powerful resistance unit available to date, enabling the trainer to maintain high power levels for long distance rides.
- 2000W power
- 20% max. slope
Variable inertia control
A true road feel for any person and all slope magnitudes are achieved by the variable inertia control. By calculating the required braking power 100x per second the IRONMAN predicts your movement and adjusts the resistance accordingly.
- 125kg max. inertia effect
The motor brake is the most advanced brake, offering the most realistic cycling experience. The brake force is controlled dynamically. This means that the resistance is calculated and adjusted continually to simulate natural road resistance, including during descents.
When calculating the brake resistance, all physical formulas a cyclist encounters on the road are applied, in order to create a situation that is as realistic as possible. Air and rolling resistance, gradient percentage, weight, air pressure, wind speed, temperature, altitude, inertia and brake properties are all taken into account and calculated hundreds of times per second to achieve a realistic feel.
A virtual flywheel dynamically controls the brake force. This means that the resistance is calculated and adjusted continually to simulate natural road resistance. Whereas other trainers use a flywheel to pass the dead centre, the Tacx IRONMAN uses calculations to predict the movements of the bike and simulate the action of a flywheel. The Tacx IRONMAN even has a downhill drive. The wheel keeps turning, so you do not need to pedal, just like in real life. The virtual flywheel can generate a variable inertia effect, allowing it to simulate the bike movements of all cyclists up to a specific bodyweight (125 kg max.) in a highly accurate manner.
Downhill drive
This feature enables the simulation of a descent and the dead centre in your pedal stroke. When you are going down a mountain in a Tacx Film, virtual world or GPS based training, the wheel keeps spinning. Just like when you’re riding outdoors.
LED lights
The motor brake is equipped with LED lights that move to the rhythm of your cadence. The red lights light up when the power output is high. When the power output is low, the green lights are more visible. The Tacx IRONMAN® trainer has to be plugged into the power grid, apart from this the trainer is wireless.
Cadence
The Tacx IRONMAN® Smart works without a cadence sensor. The cadence is derived from the variation in force on the pedals and recorded by highly accurate electronic sensors.
Automatic calibration
The set up of the IRONMAN trainer enables an easy, automatic calibration process to ensure high accuracy.

IRONMAN
Tacx is partner of IRONMAN since 2014. In collaboration with them we developed this trainer, the official ‘cycle-mounting trainer’ of IRONMAN. The trainer comes with the Tacx Film of the IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, and Upgrade Smart so you can experience this race at home with our computer software. The Kona water bottle supplied with the trainer matches the special design of the trainer perfectly.
Multifunctional front wheel support
The Skyliner is a front wheel support that raises the front wheel for a natural cycling position and increased stability. It also serves as a handle to carry the trainer.
Click ‘n ride
The bike is fixed in the trainer easily by two simple clicks.
Unique dual material roller
The roll that places the resistance on your rear wheel is made from two materials: a hardened steel sleeve with a soft core of elastogel. The steel sleeve prevents wear of the trainer, while the elastogel aborbs vibrations to reduce noise.
Intensity & cadence indicator
The colour of LED lights on the resistance unit show your intensity, while they flash at the rhythm of your cadence.
Iconic shape. Optimised for stability.
675x650mm footprint
Compatible software
Tacx Smart trainers use the Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ FE-C protocol for communication which allows them to be controlled by third-party software. The software receives the speed, cadence and power from the trainer and controls the brake. Click on more information for an explanation of the compatibility and functions of each software package.

You may connect a Tacx Smart trainer to your smartphone, tablet or computer with ANT+ or Bluetooth® Smart in order to use our software and apps, or that of others. You may also use it stand-alone, without linking the trainer to a device. This means you are completely free to choose the software you want for your indoor cycling workout.
With our software and apps, you may regulate your training ride by heart rate, gradient and power, or you may pick a famous route or race. Besides that, you may compete with other riders online. The training options vary by application.
All of our trainers are freely accessible since June 2015 as they are able to speak the ANT+ FE-C language. You can now adjust the resistance of our Smart trainers and check your speed, cadence and power with other software. The following software packages speak this new language too and allow you to control our trainers:
Firmware upgrades
With the Tacx Utility app you can always benefit from the latest firmware for the Tacx trainer and check the connection with other devices. When an update is available, you receive a notification and you can decide whether you want to update your trainer.
