The Trek Rail+ 8 Gen 5 delivers full-powered trail-crushing capability in a robust aluminium build. Designed for riders who want to pack in epic adventures and conquer steep, technical terrain, it balances rugged durability with a high-performance parts spec.
Built on Trek’s Alpha Platinum Aluminium frame, it features 160 mm of travel front and rear, with a RockShox ZEB Select fork handling the big hits up front and a Super Deluxe Select+ RT shock smoothing out the rough stuff out back. The enduro geometry is ready for steep descents, and the adjustable angle headset (cups sold separately) gives you the option to tune your setup further.
The Bosch Performance Line CX motor brings up to 120Nm of torque and delivers responsive assistance that makes light work of long climbs and looped laps. Its smart system is integrated with the 800 Wh Removable Integrated Battery (RIB 2.0), giving you hours of riding on a single charge, with easy removal for charging or travel. It’s also compatible with the Bosch PowerMore range extender if you want to go even further.
Shifting is taken care of by a well-matched Shimano XT and SLX 12-speed drivetrain, with a wide gear range to match the motor’s punch. Braking is powerful and confidence-inspiring thanks to SRAM’s DB8 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes.
The mixed wheel setup—29" front and 27.5" rear—strikes the right balance between traction, rollover and agility. Bontrager’s tubeless-ready Brevard Pro XR tyres offer grip and control on loose, techy trails, while the Bontrager Line Comp 30 wheels are built tough for the hits.
A long-travel dropper post, clean internal routing and trail-tough components mean this e-MTB is ready for big mountain days and repeat descents. If you want to ride further, climb faster and descend harder, the Rail+ 8 is your next ticket to adventure.
Bosch Performance Update 2.0
Bosch have dropped a fresh update for the Performance Line CX and CX-R motors, and it’s a big one for riders who want more punch on the trails. The update is available for the latest generation motors with the codes BDU384Y and BDU386Y, and it can be installed straight from the Bosch eBike Flow app. Nice and easy.
Once you’ve downloaded Performance Update 2.0, you can crank the motor up to a huge 120 Nm of torque, with up to 600% support and 750 watts of peak power. Bosch have also tweaked things so the motor can hold that power for longer when the riding conditions allow.
The 600% support figure only kicks in between 0 and 15 km/h, so it’s all about helping you power up steep climbs and tricky sections. The maximum assisted speed stays the same at 25 km/h.
As with previous Bosch updates, you can still customise the motor settings in the app to suit your riding style. Whether you want maximum power for steep tech climbs or a more natural feel on longer rides, you can dial it in how you like it.
Performance Update 2.0 is available for all CX Gen 5 and CX-R Gen 5 motors. It also brings Extended Boost (Bosch Overrun) and support for the new drivetrain tensioner system, which helps reduce lag when you get back on the pedals. Bosch are also adding more features and connectivity options, including Garmin integration and new power supply options.
One thing worth keeping in mind — more power means more stress on drivetrain components, so increased wear is expected over time. If you’re unsure about compatibility, servicing or upgrading components, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.

* Mountain bikes are sized differently to road bikes. Typically, they are sized in inches as the first MTBs were produced in the USA. European brands like Lapierre and Haibike like to use centimeters for all their bikes. The measurements of their mountain bikes doesn’t match their road bikes but is like a simple conversion from the inches measurement. This is why we have included cm measurements in brackets for the e mountain bike column.

Trek Rail+ 8 Gen 5 2026 - Electric Mountain Bike
In Stock
- Built and dispatched in 2-3 working daysI’ve been riding the Rail+ 8 Gen 5 for 3 weeks, and it has completely changed my weekend rides. The standout for me is the 800Wh battery - I no longer have 'range anxiety' on long steep climbs. The new Bosch Gen 5 motor is noticeably smoother and quieter than previous versions, and the power delivery feels natural rather than 'jerky. ' On the descents, the 160mm travel and the mullet setup (29" front / 27. 5" rear) make it feel much more nimble in the corners than a full 29er. Pros: Massive battery life, quiet motor, and the updated RIB 2. 0 system makes battery removal easy. Cons: I’d eventually swap the stock tires for something with more bite.
