Overview

The Giant Propel Advanced is an aero road bike that features cutting edge technologies that enable you to slice through the air as quickly and efficiently as possible. Designed with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel data the Propel was born fast and has been tried and tested at the very highest level. We review the Giant Propel Advanced 2, 1 & 0 and Advanced Pro 2, 1 & 0 models that are ready to light up the roads in 2017.

Alongside its striking looks and aero credentials the Propel Advanced offers a stiff platform for the immediate power transfer you need in a real-world race bike. Of course, the Propel Advanced is more than just a race bike and any cyclist who loves to ride fast won’t fail to be impressed.

Giant Propel 2017 frame

Frame

For the thrill of speed

Both the Propel Advanced and Advanced Pro feature an Advanced-Grade carbon fibre composite frame that offers unbeatable aero road performance. Designed using extensive CFD analysis and wind tunnel data, every frame tube shape and angle is optimised as part of a complete AeroSystem to offer the very best aerodynamic performance.

Handcrafted in Giant’s own factory, each frame is lightweight, stiff and offers a sharp responsive ride quality. The fork features a tapered OverDrive steerer for precise steering control along with aero shaping to further help you slice through the air. The Propel Advanced features carbon fork blades with an alloy steerer while you get a full carbon fork on the Advanced Pro.

While it’s a skinny wind slicer in places, the Propel is stout where it matters with an oversized Overdrive 2 fork steerer and stem, massive bottom bracket block and big chainstays. It’s an impressively light chassis too – Bike Radar

Giant Propel Drivetrain

Groupset

Shimano drivetrain with SpeedControl SL brakes

It's any cyclists dream with the aerodynamic set up and wheels. Equipped with Ultegra Di2 and the new Ridesense integrated data transmitter, it's really one of the best bikes I've ridden. I can't wait to race on it this season! - Jack Sadler, Team Tredz

Designed as a complete AeroSystem each component plays its part in the Propel’s aero performance. Tucked neatly behind the fork and seatstays, the SpeedControl SL brakes are shaped to reduce drag while offering powerful speed control.

Each model features a Shimano 2x11 speed drivetrain with a mid-compact 36/52t chainset (apart from the Advanced 2 which has a compact 34/50t) and 11x28t cassette. You get the slick shifting 105 groupset on the Advanced 2 moving up to the smoother Ultegra on the Advanced/Advanced Pro 1 and the ultra-quick electronic shifting of Di2 on the Advanced/Advanced Pro 0.

Giant Propel wheels

Wheels

Aero carbon composite WheelSystems

Like the frame the Giant wheels on each Propel model are designed as a complete WheelSystem with the rims, hubs and spokes all working together to offer great performance. The SLR 0 and SLR 1 wheels on the Advanced Pro models are lightweight and feature deep section, full carbon rims that cut through the air efficiently while still being stable in a crosswind. The SL wheels on the Advanced 0 feature a similar rim profile but with a slightly heavier composite/alloy hybrid construction. The Propel Advanced 1 and 2 feature more conventional alloy wheels that are ideal for training.

The Propel Advanced Pro models feature Giant Gavia tyres and are supplied already set up as a tubeless system, so you can take advantage of this puncture reducing technology right from the off.

Tuck yourself down on the drops, hit the pedals hard and you're rewarded with impressive speed for your efforts. This thing can really shift - Road CC
