Product Description

The Abus Ugrip Bordo is a different kind of lock, it’s foldable. Combining strength, security and weight in an easily transportable compact design it makes a great security feature for any bike. The great thing about this U lock is you get the flexibility of a cable lock, but with the strength of a D-lock (without the weight).

Great for moderate crime areas the Abus Ugrip Bordo is highly picking resistant and makes an ideal lock for quick stops or on long rides where you don’t want to lug around a heavy system. Abus have also gone to town on the colours - often locks are just black, but these add a splash of colour.

    A good second lock

My bike lives outside in London, so I bought this as a second lock to use alongside my D lock. Although it is heavier than the kinds of cable locks that many in London use for their front wheels, it's not *too* heavy, and it's easier to carry around than a long cable because it's more easily attached to the frame. It's probably also harder for thieves to cut than a thin cable - I hope so, anyway. It's easy to fold / unfold; it's just long enough to reach around a wheel, the frame, and a slim poll / railing; and the lock opens and shuts without too much trouble. I deducted points for performance because I wouldn't trust it as a primary lock, and price because it's expensive for a second lock. For anyone wondering, it's too short to fit adding something like a lamppost. I chose the bright orange to match my frame :)

Overall very happy with this lock

Looks the part, easy to fit and better reach than most U locks. Folds up nicely so easy to carry as well. A bit heavier than I hoped for but still pretty good as serious locks go.

    Foldable u-lock

More flexible then and u lock allowing more securing options, plus you can connect multiple locks together which can be useful when locking multiple bikes together. Easy to transport on the bike frame. I Have only used for short stops and probably would use a u-lock as well if leaving a good bike somewhere like the train station

    Bike Locks Guide

    What is a bike lock?

A bike lock is a security device for your bike which will deter thieves and keep your bike in your possession and not theirs. Bike locks are vital not just on the move but also at home to give you peace of mind.

    Who needs a bike lock?

If you ever leave your bike unattended while you’re on a ride, a lock can mean that your bike is still there when you return from that quick shop stop or comfort break. If you have insured your bike, there are often requirements on the type of lock you’ll need in order to make a claim, so it’s worth checking this information.

    What are the choices?

There are all kinds of locks to choose from. Sturdy D-locks  and chunky chain locks may be heavy but they are harder to cut through. Lighter weight cable locks are great for securing components with quick release skewers. Ground anchors are concreted or bolted into the ground making them an ideal home-based security measure.

What should I buy with it?

Bike security markings are a great idea, as they could help to identify it if it unfortunately gets stolen. Lock spares are available so you can replace anything from a shackle to a bracket.

    Anything else?

We recommend you spent at least 10% of the value of your bike on a lock - with bike crime always on the rise, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
