Great value, lightweight rack but caution with side-pull brakes.

I don't need to carry heavy loads and just wanted a lightweight rack to carry a rack bag. This Axiom rack fits the bill exactly. The low price belies the quality of the product. The rack is very light but appears to be well-made and sturdy with neat welded joints. The semi-matt black finish seems very good although only time will tell how quickly it wears with use. The rack is supplied with four good-quality steel bolts for fixing the main stays to the drop-out eyelets but I would've liked to have seen washers supplied too (I provided my own) - a minor niggle and maybe I'm just nerdy about these things! The stainless steel mounting arms don't look such good quality but are sturdy enough. They are also long and bendy to allow for adjustment to lots of different frame sizes and mounting positions. BUT, a word of caution here if you have side-pull calliper brakes as my bike does. The left-hand mounting arm in my bike's case fouled the brake cable where it enters the brake calliper so I had to file a cut-out in the arm to allow room for the cable. So fitting the rack wasn't quite as straightforward as it should've been. It might be better to purchase the Axiom Versalock arms or Bridge Mount arm as an extra if you have side-pull brakes. If you have cantilever or V-brakes I don't think there'd be a problem. Overall, even allowing for the problem with the mounting arm, I'd recommend this product to anyone looking for a good-quality, lightweight rack. Great value.

Excellent - and thanks for the candy

Excellent build quality given the price. Pretty straightforward to fit but so sturdy it took some heaving around to get nice and straight on the bike (Merida Crossway hybrid). Turned a fun bike into a practical one. Thanks guys.

    Simply brilliant

Bought one of these years ago before riding from john o groats to lands end. It is a sturdy rack and a lot lighter than any others I found in this price bracket. I've just stared to do some touring again with my wife and am now buying one for her too.
