Product Description

Flat Out Fast

Built with the same core design principles as the pro-level Zephyr, the all-new Stratus road helmet combines lightweight aero effciency with cutting-edge comfort technologies. The shape was refined for all round road performance-ventilated for long climbs but still fast for the flats-and the all-new Float Fit system offers comfort and security with a streamlined fit and an oversized dial that's easy to adjust with one hand. The Overbrow Ventilation system pulls cool air in through the front and pushes it through an air-channel matrix to reduce overheating. And thanks to the adjustable No-Twist Tri-Glides, the straps stay flat and properly positioned no matter how hard you're hammering. This model also includes MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) for added protection in certain types of impacts.

  • Weight: 295 grams

Performs well but straps are flimsy and rubber trim in the adjuster came off almost immediately. Not a patch, in terms of build quality, on Kask Mojito. It does a good job if you can live with the flaws.

Good design let down by manufacturing defects

The integrated MIPS is a comfort and (hopefully) safety improvement but it wasn't working at all when I received mine. That was because the lining between the helmet shell and MIPS cage, over which the latter slides, was twisted and adhering the two together. This was easily fixed by straightening and smoothing down the sticky-backed felt-like material. But then a different problem arose: after a few rides the chin strap came apart, because it appears my large-size helmet has been fitted with small-size straps. So while it just about fits, there isn't enough excess to keep it from slipping through the buckle. I've had plenty of Bell helmets - I find their basic shape the best match for my head - and never had this problem before, so I can only assume their quality control is slipping.
