The best 9sp chain

I use these chains for my Shimano XT 9 speed set up on my MTB and on my Touring bike. The Sram 9 speed power link fits these chains perfectly and makes installation/removal a piece of cake.

Campagnlo chain

Good quality chain for my older Reynolds 531 Witcombe bike. Removable link not supplied, so I used my old rivet tool. I presume that this is more secure! but not so easy to remove.

Chains Guide

What are chains?

The chain is the crucial element that drives the rest of your drivetrain.

Who needs a chain?

All conventional bikes have a chain and they don’t last forever. You will need to replace your chain if it breaks or if a chain checking tool shows it’s too worn.

What are the choices?

Chain choice can be bewildering – it’s crucial you get the right chain width for your bike. Most chains don’t list the width, instead stating the type of cassette it’s suitable for e.g. eight-speed or 11-speed. Some will list the width, though, such as 3/32in.

What should I buy with them?

Every chain needs chain lube to keep it running squeak free.

Anything else?

Don’t delay changing a worn chain. Not only are you at risk of being stranded when it snaps, but a worn chain can cause wear to the rest of your drivetrain, which can be a costly mistake.
