Cube AMS100 C:62 Race 29 Mountain Bike 2016 - Full Suspension MTB
Discreet in black, but untamed. With its elegant Blackline look, the AMS 100 Race might appear rather reserved at first sight. But don't be fooled. A second glance at the state-of-the-art carbon frame and high quality components reveals a fast marathon bike that will unleash its potential on competitive trail rides.
Frame
The superlight and very stiff C:62 carbon frame, dynamic Agile Ride Geometry, efficient 100mm travel from the AMS chainstays - and various other details - all demonstrate that this bike is a racer for keen riders looking for all-out performance. In order to keep the suspension characteristics - which we've tuned specifically for marathon and XC - identical across all frame sizes, each size has its own unique carbon rocker and specially positioned pivot points. This is a frame for fast perfectionists who value understated looks. Another plus: for frame sizes of 19 inch and over, there's room for a second water bottle.
Components
Race full susser or fast trail bike? Both! Rock Shox running gear in "Fast Black" integrates brilliantly, in terms of both looks and function, into the AMS 100 C:62 Race. The handlebar lockout is perfect for keeping the Rock Shox Reba RL under control in flat-out sprints, while the 3-stage Monarch RT3 shock handles the rear end. It's not just about control and traction on technical trails - it's also about added comfort. Shimano's XT groupset has always been the benchmark for durability, performance and versatility; the new 2x11 XT with its giant gear range, courtesy of its 11-40 cassette, improves the breed even more. The new XT disk brakes set a reference point for power and control, while the Fulcrum Red 66 system wheels offer a perfectly balanced weight/stiffness ratio.
Adaptable X12 Hanger
We optimized our new dropout design based on the Syntace X12 through-axle system, enlarging the area of the frame where the hanger is mounted. We can now fit the longer Direct Mount hangers. Shifting precision and stiffness is therefore improved. With the new design it's also possible to swap the whole contact area of the axle with the hanger should the system be worn out.
Advanced Twin Mold
The Advanced Twin Mold process eliminates any dangerous folding by continuous control of carbon fibers during the curing process. This is made possible by an internal form which gives the perfect frame form during the layup process. Each individual fibre remains precisely in position as it cures. In this way less material can be used as the individual layers can be more accurately and reliably positioned. This production method also makes it possible to increase the carbon fibre proportion in line with anticipated loadings at specific points on the frame. All SUPER HPC models from 2014 on are manufactured using this high-tech method.
Agile Ride Geometry
We ran innumerable tests to develop the Agile Ride Geometry in our series of big wheel bikes. We also added the 27.5in wheel size to the very well received portfolio. Three important details lead to the very agile character. Increased fork offsets let us achieve the same trail as our 26in bikes without having to steepen the head angle, thus maintaining generous toe clearance to the front wheel. Secondly we shortened the chain stays without compromising the seat angle. We invented a patented construction to mount the front derailleur to give us more tyre clearance while keeping a conventional seat angle, leading to a perfect riding position for every rider size. Last but not least we kept the BB height the same as on our 26in bikes. These measures lead to a natural riding position. Every mountain biker will feel immediately at home on a CUBE 29er or 27.5.
Efficient Ride Control
Our Efficient Ride Control concept is now also applied to our newly developed 27.5 frames like the AMS 130 and AMS 150. With Efficient Ride Control particular attention has been given to delivering the identical optimum riding experience to every rider, irrespective of body size. We've designed the linkage geometry on a model-by-model basis so that all frame sizes have the same travel and spring rate curves. In addition, the kinematics have been optimized specifically in relation to travel in respect of sensitivity, drive and no bobbing. For this it was necessary to specially position all rear pivot points. Whether the rider is large or small, with any of these models he will always have the optimum ride experience.
FSP4Link
The key requirement is for continuously active and fully usable travel, with the rear triangle unaffected by pedalling or especially braking forces. There are a number of ways of achieving this ? CUBE favours a four bar design with a chainstay pivot. Here, one of the pivots is located between the dropout and the chainstay, ensuring that braking does not have a negative effect on the movement of the rear wheel. By carefully positioning the remaining pivots, we obtain the finest riding qualities for our full suspension bikes both uphill and downhill. This fact is proven by many top test results in leading magazines over the last few years.
Integrated Cable Routing
Internally routed cables offer many advantages. Cables are protected from dirt for longer life, weight is saved thanks to the absence of external housing and the bike has a clean, sleek appearance.
Integrated Post Mount
The post mount rear brake system is found on all carbon fiber frames and top aluminum full suspension models. Two bolts and the IS adpater aren?t needed anymore, and fewer parts means less weight. In this case we save 30 grams. This may not sound a lot. But there's potential to save weight in every detail.
Press Fit BB
With Press Fit bearings, the bottom bracket bearings are pressed directly into the frame and not screwed in as usual. This gives a wider bottom bracket shell and allows us to build a wider down tube and more broadly-spaced chainstays. Every millimetre of additional width gives a significant improvement in lateral stiffness.
Size Tuned Kinematic
Size Tuned Kinematics is a four-pivot suspension technology developed exclusively by CUBE. It guarantees that every frame in every size will have exactly the same dynamic properties in terms of wheel travel, axle path and spring rate curve.
Tapered Steerer
This steerer tube design is stiffer than a conventional straight steerer and yields a more secure ride feel even in difficult terrain. Minimal flex at the front of the frame means the greatest possible steering precision. With the larger steerer, the forks become more rigid. At the same time weight is saved due to the absence of bearing shells as the lower bearing is fully integrated into the head tube. On all of our CUBE carbon models the upper bearing shells are also directly in the frame, so that once more a few grams are saved and the energy transfer is very direct.
Wet Paint Surface
On polished, brushed aluminium and all HPC frames, the logos and graphics are applied in multi-layer wet paint. We use this surface treatment technology mainly to save weight.
X12 Through Axle
In this system, a cone is used to form a play-free connection. It is only necessary to tighten the axle from one side. The position of the wheel is done by an insert in the right-hand dropout which is secured by a bolt. The main advantages of the Syntace system are quick and simple changing of the wheel, reliable position of the brake disc and higher stiffness of the rear of the bike. This allows the assembly to be made lighter than a conventional through-axle.
