Genesis High Latitude 20 Mountain Bike 2015 - Hardtail MTB
For 2015, Genesis have changed their Mountain Bike naming structure, and the High Latitude is now their 29er hardtail. This big-wheeled steel hardtail is designed with the UK riding conditions firmly in mind.
Frame and Fork
The frame comprises of Genesis’ own branded steel called ‘Mjolnir’, which is a double butted and cold drawn, giving a lively and comfortable feel when covering technical ground. ‘Mjolnir’ compares closely to Reynolds 520 in ride quality and durability. Steel is a naturally more compliant material than Aluminium, making it a good choice on technical terrain. Steel will naturally absorb some of the impact from rocks and roots, creating a more forgiving ride quality. This will in turn allow you to spend more time riding.
The 44mm oversize headtube found up front makes for unwavering stiffness and accurate handling and tracking. The relatively slack 69.5 degree head angle is a good middle ground for a hardtail MTB. This makes for a confidence inspiring bike on the descents, but also a competent climber when you’ve got the legs for another go!
For 2015, Genesis have adopted X-Fusion’s Slide RL2 suspension fork, with 80-100mm adjustable travel, and a tapered steerer for great stiffness and control. The fork adopts a 15mm thru axle technology, which again increases the stiffness and responsiveness in handling out on the trails.
Components
The High Latitude 20 features workhorse componentry from Shimano, offering performance and industry leading reliability, such as the Deore shifters, front and rear derailleurs. The gearing is 2x10, making for a versatile trail bike on those ‘all-day’ rides.
Hydraulic Shimano M447 disc brakes allow for great stopping power when you need it, giving you confidence to push yourself out on the trails.
Alex Rim Volar 2.3 rims offer a ‘tubeless-ready’ upgrade path, and their 28.4mm sizing allows for a high volume tyre profile on the Maxxis Ardent 2.5’’ tyres. The Ardent tyres are a firm UK favourite, complimenting the general terrain and trail centre conditions found up and down the country.
