Product Description

Lightweight and smooth rolling. The Giant Contend SL 1 is a road bike that is built around a lightweight alloy frame with premium features like internal cable routing and a hidden seat clamp. With its endurance riding position combined with wide tyres and a D-fuse seatpost the Contend will keep you comfortable in the saddle on long rides. An ideal bike for sportives as well as general road cycling.

  • Lightweight ALUXX SL-Grade aluminium alloy frame with endurance geometry
  • Carbon bladed fork for lightweight steering precision
  • D-fuse seat post for improved comfort on rough road surfaces
  • Shimano 105 1x11 speed drivetrain with wide range cassette
  • Giant P-R2 wheels with wide 28c tyres for a smoother ride
  • Sizes: Small, Medium, Medium/Large, Large, X Large
  • Colours: Gun Metal Black/Green
  • The Giant Contend SL 1 is available with 0% APR finance

This lightweight aluminium all-rounder puts a premium on smooth, confident handling. Its versatile frame geometry is designed to blend endurance positioning with quick and agile cornering and climbing.

Balanced road geometry: Frame is specifically engineered to produce a balanced, all-rounder feel that blends confident rider positioning with agile cornering and acceleration.

Smooth ride quality: Innovative D-Fuse composite seatpost design reduces road shocks and vibrations for a smooth ride quality that improves comfort and minimises fatigue.

ALUXX SL Aluminium Technology

This high-performance level, state-of-the-art Aluminium material is made predominantly from 6011 alloy and delivers best-in-class strength-to-weight ratios. These framesets also feature unique welding technologies for a high-performance ride quality.

D-Fuse

Named for the shape of the seatpost and handlebar, the lightweight D fuse components work as part of the bike to significantly reduce road vibrations and aid compliance.

Compact Road Design

Introduced by Giant with the professional Team ONCE in the 1990s, Compact Road revolutionised the look and feel of high-performance road bikes forever. A downward sloping top tube (from the head tube to the seat tube) creates smaller front and rear triangles for a lighter, stiffer bike. It also makes it easier for riders of all sizes to have a perfect fit.

OverDrive

Giant’s original oversized fork steerer tube technology. Designed to provide precise front-end steering performance, the system’s oversized headset bearings (1 1/4” lower and 1 1/8” upper for road, 1 1/2” lower and 1 1/8” upper for mountain) and tapered steerer tube work in conjunction to provide optimal steering stiffness.

Cycle2Work Bargain
by Anonymous user on 01/07/2019

Decided to upgrade my aged old Hybrid commuter on the Cycle2work scheme, wanted a fairly upright ride with fairly wide tyres with the switch to a road bike, the Giant SL 1 Contend was the only choice in the end, the 105 drivetrain is a dream, especially on the hills, my strata has already awarded medals galore in three rides (even in a headwind), great service from Tredz delaying my delivery on request whilst on holiday

Comfortable and quick
by Anonymous user on 06/12/2018

Bought for Velo Birmingham 2019. I own a hybrid mountain bike as my main bike and thought this new Giant would be relatively uncomfortable and difficult to ride having previously had a road bike with dropped bars briefly. But no, a really comfortable ride, feeling safe even on poor quality West Midlands roads. Gear shifting was spot on and had clearly been set up with care as no adjustment needed. I'm used to hydraulic discs but I found even in the wet the Tektro brakes were decent. The seatpost is genius with its concealed bolt and inability to twist out of line, someone has actually thought about the design after decades of everyone doing the same thing. I think the Giant's slight deviation from a pure racing bike is worth it as I have something I love to ride! I may stick 25mm tyres on for the big race but will enjoy the 28mm comfort until then. Excellent personal service from Tredz too.
