Frame Bags Guide
Frame bags are designed to fit onto the frame of your bike. Available in different sizes, these bags both expand the carrying capacity of your bike and are easily accessible on your adventures.
Types of Frame Bags
Inline Frame Bags
Fitted inside the frame of your bike, inline frame bags are the most common type of bag. Particularly for longer endurance rides or multi-day trips.
Storage Cases
Storage cases are also mounted on the top tube of your frame. These packs usually have a much tougher material compared to other bags and are much smaller/aerodynamic. They are most commonly used in competitions or endurance races.
Top Tube Bags
Top Tube Bags are mounted on the top tube of your frame. These bags make your fuel/essentials easily accessible and are often a little smaller than a standard frame bag.
Universal/Race Straps
Universal straps are used for additional storage. These straps allow you to mount further accessories onto the frame of your bike. The most common type of straps are Velcro, which are easily adjustable depending on frame size and the equipment you are carrying.

What to look for
Fittings
Frame bags are designed to strap onto your frame with ease. The fittings are adjustable to easily fit a variety of different bikes. The most common strap used for frame bags is an adjustable Velcro strap, which is specifically positioned on the bag to position the bag mirroring the shape of the frame. Other forms of straps used are rubber/silicone bands that clip around the frame.
Size/Capacity
The frame bag carrying capacity is commonly measured in litres. The listed measurement is the maximum capacity that the bag can carry. Frame bags vary in size from about 0.5L for the very smallest, all the way up to 8 litres for the largest. The most common size for frame bags is 3 Litres.
The size you require will be determined by the size of your frame. So it is always recommended to measure your frame, to find the correct size bag. You will also need to factor in whether you will have enough room for a bag, due to the bottles you are carrying in the frame.
Materials
The materials used for frame bags is an important factor to take into consideration for cycling in the UK. Most frame bags use materials with weather protection, however you will want a fully water-resistant bag to protect your belongings from the elements. Look for fully waterproof materials such as nylon fabric and a roll top frame bag for the best weather protection. The best frame bags have a waterproof zipper aswell.
