Sram performance at no frill prices

Great performing chain, silky smooth even with a Shimano drivetrain. The Powerlock connector means you don't have to break the chain to remove it (for regularly cleaning that's really good). The downside is that Powerlock is designed to be one-time use only, so it stays shut really well. A handy tool (like the BBB Open Link) is a must when dealing with Powerlocks.

Sram pc971

Great chain for the price I can normally get one of these chains to last 12 months if kept clean. The power links are great and the gearshift is slick.

Chains Guide

What are chains?

The chain is the crucial element that drives the rest of your drivetrain.

Who needs a chain?

All conventional bikes have a chain and they don’t last forever. You will need to replace your chain if it breaks or if a chain checking tool shows it’s too worn.

What are the choices?

Chain choice can be bewildering – it’s crucial you get the right chain width for your bike. Most chains don’t list the width, instead stating the type of cassette it’s suitable for e.g. eight-speed or 11-speed. Some will list the width, though, such as 3/32in.

What should I buy with them?

Every chain needs chain lube to keep it running squeak free.

Anything else?

Don’t delay changing a worn chain. Not only are you at risk of being stranded when it snaps, but a worn chain can cause wear to the rest of your drivetrain, which can be a costly mistake.
