A very competitive choice.

As an avid mountain biker for many years now I can happily recommend this bike. At the point of writing this review I have had the bike almost a week all the while putting many miles into it. The larger tires really so make bums much more easy to deal with along side the smooth suspension travel I am more than happy. I have been on tracks ranging from beginner to highly skilled and haven't been let down yet. I would like to point out I gave the plastic pedals that came with it a go.... If you are a casual dirt muncher they will do really well, anything more and you will want to change them. The option of bigger spacing in the tire tread is useful off-road but on the normal roads pebbles and such on the road side then to make the tires slip around. That's why the bike isn't a 5 star through and through. Finally as a note for Tredz to take. I'm not bothered at all but you many want to be more careful with the reflector on the handle bars. It was snapped off in shipping. I don't have an issue with this as I put on ones of my choice but others may be less happy with snapped reflectors. I highly recommend this for any fun times on the dirt track. For all those of you wondering out there the breaks are amazing in my bike, just bare in mind there is another review here where the owner says the breaks are not so hot so make sure you check when you order this beautiful girl.

good but not brilliant

I've not been on a MB for a while, and spent many hours trawling through websites to find the best bike for the money. i bought from tredz (excellent service). I went for the 29er as i have a lot of fast hard packed dirt tracks near me. Everything i read about the 29er is true, the bigger wheels are proper smooth!!! But don't go too fast on this bike, as soon as you get over 20mph the rear mech does not like it, it seems to slip gears sometimes and the brakes are a bit spongy, they slow you down but they won't lock the wheel, so you squeeze the lever fully and only stop at the bike pace not yours, i have bled the brakes etc, but still have the same problem. Also I find the bars a bit on the wide side (not much of an issue if you have a grinder) and the stem a little short. perhaps this is just personal preference. Its a real shame because as a kid i always lusted after a specialized and feel a bit let down. All that said and it is me just being a bit picky the bike looks great. so i suppose ill just upgrade components over time.

Great piece of kit!

This is my first 'proper' mountain bike and my first new bike for years. The bike arrived with just the pedals to install and the handlebars to straighten - and, with the saddle adjusted, it was 'ready to ride'. I've done about 40 miles on rough cycle tracks so far and have had no problems at all - the bike is comfortable, manouverable & is a pleasure to be on. I would recommend this bike & Tredz, without hesitation - for less than £500.00, it's very good value indeed.
