Zipp 303 NSW Carbon Clincher Front Road Wheel

The Zipp 303 NSW Carbon Clincher front wheel is the flagship of the Zipp 303 range, and quite possibly the most technologically advanced front wheel ever to take to the cobbled classics of the Paris Roubaix and tour of Flanders races.

Though the 303 NSW wheel shares its name with others in the range, the similarities end there. The NSW wheel incorporates cutting edge aerodynamic and braking material technologies you won’t find anywhere else in the peloton. Using the established Firecrest rim profile as it’s foundation, the NSW wheel features Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control (ABLC™) SawTooth™ technology to reduce the effect of crosswinds, while maintaining the forward aerodynamic advantage.

By shedding vortices on the windward side of the wheel rim during a crosswind, the laminar air on the shielded side of the rim is broken, and along with it go the lateral forces which would otherwise make the bike less stable. The result is a ride which not only delivers outstanding aerodynamic smoothness in a straight line, it maintains stability and keeps you composed during crosswinds and gusts.

In the rim, Zipp have employed their Showstopper™ material tech in the brake track, which combines a directional texture moulded into the surface, with silicon carbide particles suspended within the resin itself. Silicon carbide is highly abrasion resistant, allowing the use of more aggressive braking pads to deliver significantly improved stopping power in both wet and dry conditions.

Zipp’s 303 NSW Carbon Clincher wheels are built around their latest and greatest hub technology, the Cognition. The front hub features a unique shell design that is lighter and more compact than Zipp’s previous hubsets, while maintaining their ethos of a hub which doesn’t microscopically deform under the tension of the spokes. The result is a hub whose bearings run truer, roll smoother, ride faster, and last much longer. The hub bearings come precision preloaded from the factory, and don’t require any adjustment from the rider.
