The MTX 8.9 is the top model in Boardman’s Multi-Terrain Crossover range, designed for riders who want a bike capable of tackling a wide mix of surfaces without being limited to one style of riding. From rough urban roads to gravel paths and forest tracks, the MTX 8.9 is built to feel controlled, comfortable and efficient wherever your route takes you.
At its heart is a triple-butted 6061 X7 aluminium frame. The tubes are shaped for strength where needed, while keeping weight low for easy climbing and acceleration. Hidden welds give it a clean finish, and the geometry places riders in a stable, upright position that works equally well for leisure riding, daily commuting or longer weekend outings.
The Suntour NCX-E air-sprung fork adds 63mm of smooth, adjustable travel to soften rough ground. The alloy stanchions and 15x100mm thru-axle help maintain steering precision, while the lockout feature lets you firm things up on smooth tarmac to save energy. The fork’s adjustability means you can fine-tune its feel to suit your weight and the terrain you ride most.
Shimano’s Deore 1x11 drivetrain brings simplicity and control. With a single chainring up front and an 11–51t cassette at the rear, it provides a broad gear range for both steep climbs and faster sections. The narrow-wide chainring and clutch rear derailleur work together to keep the chain securely in place, even on rougher trails. With only one shifter to think about, gear changes are intuitive and quick.
Shimano MT400 hydraulic disc brakes offer consistent and easily modulated stopping power. Combined with Schwalbe Tyrago 35mm tyres—which use KevlarGuard puncture protection—the MTX 8.9 gives reliable grip and braking confidence in a range of weather and surface conditions.
Boardman MTX wheels with Formula hubs keep things durable and responsive, and a suspension seatpost adds an extra layer of comfort for longer rides or uneven terrain. Mounts for mudguards and a pannier rack expand the bike’s usefulness for commuting or year-round riding, making it a dependable choice for practical cyclists.
