The SLR 8.8 sits at the top of Boardman’s aluminium road range, bringing together a lightweight triple-butted alloy frame, a full carbon fork and dependable components to create a fast yet comfortable all-round road bike. The smooth-welded aluminium tubes give the frame a clean, almost carbon-like finish, while the geometry offers the flexibility to ride in a lower, more efficient position or settle into a relaxed setup for longer days.
The frame’s shaping takes cues from Boardman’s aerodynamic research on the SLR 9 Series, helping air flow smoothly around key areas without adding extra weight. The tapered carbon fork boosts front-end stiffness for predictable steering and helps take the edge off rougher roads, adding comfort on long sportives or daily rides.
Shimano Tiagra 2x10 provides reliable, accurate shifting with a broad spread of ratios thanks to the 50/34 chainset and 11–32 cassette. This combination keeps climbs manageable while offering enough top-end speed for faster group rides or steady commuting. Tektro MD-C511 mechanical disc brakes deliver dependable stopping in all weather, with clearance for mudguards and a pannier rack to support year-round practicality.
The bike rolls on tubeless-ready alloy rims, offering an easy upgrade path for riders wanting extra comfort and puncture protection. Vittoria Rubino 28mm tyres provide a balance of grip, speed and durability, making them suitable for training miles and mixed road surfaces.
Boardman’s updated contact points—shaped using data from hundreds of bike fits—help most riders achieve a comfortable and efficient position. The SLR saddle, practical bar widths and refined crank lengths reduce pressure, support steady riding and help minimise frontal area for improved airflow.
Light, smooth and versatile, the SLR 8.8 is a great option for riders wanting a fast aluminium road bike that’s comfortable enough for long days and practical enough for commuting.
