The Cannondale CAAD14 2 continues a long line of performance-focused aluminium road bikes. Rather than trying to imitate a carbon bike, the CAAD14 uses Cannondale's experience with aluminium construction to create a responsive road bike with modern aerodynamics, integrated components and race-inspired handling.
Its SmartForm C1 Premium Alloy frame uses carefully shaped aluminium tubing and smooth welds to balance stiffness, weight and ride quality. The geometry retains the responsive handling expected from the CAAD family, making the CAAD14 suited to everything from fast weekend rides and club runs to racing.
Modern standards are incorporated throughout the frame, including a 12x142mm rear thru-axle and flat-mount disc brakes. A threaded BSA 68mm bottom bracket keeps servicing straightforward, while the UDH dropout makes replacement hangers easier to source and adds compatibility with current drivetrain standards.
The CAAD14 full carbon fork uses a full carbon Delta Steerer with an integrated crown race. Cannondale varies the fork offset according to frame size, using 55mm on 44-54cm bikes and 45mm on 56-61cm sizes to help maintain consistent handling characteristics across the size range.
Internal cable routing runs through the fork and frame, creating a cleaner appearance and reducing exposed cabling at the front of the bike. The Delta Steerer is designed with a minimal frontal area, contributing to the CAAD14's aerodynamic approach.
SRAM Rival AXS provides wireless electronic 2x12-speed shifting. The Rival AXS front and rear derailleurs are paired with a 48/35T chainset and wide-range 10-36T cassette, providing close enough ratios for maintaining cadence on faster roads alongside useful lower gears for steeper climbs.
Wireless shifting removes mechanical gear cables from the cockpit and provides precise electronic gear changes from the Rival AXS controls. SRAM's AXS system also allows compatible drivetrain settings to be customised through the AXS ecosystem.
SRAM Rival AXS hydraulic disc brakes provide controlled braking in changing conditions. Cannondale pairs them with 160mm PaceLine rotors at both ends, giving consistent braking capacity for fast road riding and longer descents.
DT Swiss E 1800 Spline wheels provide a dependable tubeless-ready wheelset. They use DT Swiss 370 hubs, including the LN Ratchet System at the rear, alongside DT aero comp II straight-pull spokes.
Vittoria Rubino Pro IV 700x28c tyres complement the wheelset with a versatile road setup. Their 28mm width balances efficient rolling with useful air volume for grip and comfort on typical road surfaces.
At the front, Vision Trimax Aero handlebars are paired with Cannondale's C1 Conceal alloy stem. The combination creates a streamlined cockpit with hidden cable routing while retaining separate handlebar and stem components, giving more flexibility when adjusting or replacing cockpit parts than a one-piece system.
Cannondale's SAVE carbon seatpost is designed to provide some compliance at the saddle, helping take the edge off rough road surfaces. Its 27.2mm diameter and carbon construction complement the aluminium frame, adding comfort without moving away from the CAAD14's performance-focused character.
A Prologo Nago RS STN saddle completes the contact points, while size-specific cockpit and crank dimensions help the specification better suit riders across the frame size range. Crank lengths range from 165mm to 172.5mm, with stem lengths also increasing across the sizes.
Overall, the CAAD14 2 combines the direct feel of a high-quality aluminium frame with features more commonly associated with modern carbon race bikes. Wireless Rival AXS shifting, integrated cables, aero components, DT Swiss wheels and a carbon fork make it a strong option for riders who value responsive road handling without feeling that carbon is essential.
