It's what they don't say in the adverts
    by Anonymous user on 03/01/2020

Firstly it's a nice small piece of kit that hopefully will work well, but a few downsides: 1. No adverts mention it only fits road bikes with a 12-17mm gap between fork and wheel. I have a new disc brake bike and my gap is borderline 17mm only down at the hub, which means sensor is on edge of allowed gap, but also moves the sensor away from display and puts it at the end of the 600mm range between sensor and display. How this will work over time I have my doubts. 2. The display clips into a holder, but it doesn't have a release lever like most lights or other computers. So you have to give it quite a tug to get it out which is fiddly, but over time the latch will no doubt get rounded and may not be secure. 3. The rubber bancs to hold the sensor in place seem a bit thin and I wonder how longer they will last. 4. The bands that hold both the sensor and display in place don't have tags on them to allow you to pull them on and take them off easily, so adds hassle to relocate, but also likely to add damage to the bands when being moved as probably got to pinch them with your nails. So lots of little basic errors that could easily be improved.

Nice clear display, easy to use and surprisingly accurate when compared with GPS. Very small profile. Would recommend.

    Intermittent speed problems
    by Phil J on 20/07/2017

This is actually a replacement unit for the last one which was registering 0mph on a regular basis. I've noticed this one is doing the same and having looked on the internet concluded that this seems common with Cateye computers. As the sensor is so slim and sits flush on the inside of the fork, the only place I can get the magnet within 5mm of it is down at the bottom of the fork. This is about 58cm away from the main unit - just 2cm short of the maximum distance between main unit and sensor. I'll persevere with it for now and see what happens. I may have to reset it all and start again but even that may not make any difference. All in all I'm not impressed with this unit despite the slim design and increased screen size which is supposed to make it more attractive to buy than the previous version.

    Great simple computer
    by Jill G on 21/06/2017

If you are looking for a simple light weight wireless cycle computer, then this is a great choice. Better value on Tredz than Wiggle or CRC. Note that this version is for road bikes, there is a slightly different sensor for the MB version.

    Temperamental unit at times.
    by Phil J on 11/06/2017

I've had a couple of issues with this unit since last Xmas. First it kept showing 0mph as I was cycling at around 15mph on a regular basis. I've since got the sensor as close as I can to the magnet and all seems ok. Last week I turned up to the start of a club ride and noticed it was showing 'Unit' as if I had pressed the menu button to set the mph/kph settings. Not experienced this with any other Cateye computer. My brother can't get his working at all despite the sensor and magnet almost touching. Not confident it will register the miles accurately and that's all I really want.

    Ideal bike computer.
    by Wayne P on 17/05/2016

My wife has this neat little computer on two of her bikes and loves them. The second one has just been replaced after about 6 months when the screen went blank, came back on again, then wouldn't allow itself to be reset. The first one is still working perfectly after about 2 years. The only slight niggle she has is that the unit is a little tricky to get off the mount, otherwise it's to be recommended.

    Great piece of kit
    by Philip F on 19/01/2016

Great little bit of kit, bought as a replacement for an old cat eye one, which got scratched. I use it as a sanity check against my GPS device as I know the mileage, etc is more or less spot on. Fits neatly on stem and is inobstrusive. Easy to read and reset. Not that difficult to set up once you get the hang of how to do it. Good basic computer.

    Great little slimline computer!
    by Chris H on 06/01/2016

Just bought this and is my first computer for my new road bike! Works really well providing the time, speed, average speed and distance biked in total and on the current ride. It's a bit tricky to change the time on it but you can find the instructions on the internet which really helps. Was easy to fit and an ideal unit for what I need!

Can I pair my cycle computer with a smartphone, power meter and other devices?

You will need a wireless computer to sync with other devices. Most wireless computers sync using 2 wireless technologies – ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart.

    ANT+

ANT+ enabled devices to talk to each other and present the information on a compatible device.

    Bluetooth Smart

Bluetooth Smart is a low energy wireless technology designed for smart sport and fitness. The long battery life in sensors makes it ideal for regular use in cycling.

Always check your smartphone’s OS and 3rd party devices are compatible.

Would a Watch / Fitness band be better for me?

If you’re looking for something more versatile then cycle watches are a great alternative. You can still gather data from cycling sensors, but you can also gather data for different sports too. They are great for triathletes and those that do multiple sports.

You can easily transfer data from a road bike to a mountain bike, from running to swimming. There aren’t many outdoor exercises you can’t track.

What software & Apps should I use?

    Strava

Strava is perhaps the most well-known cycling App / software around. All you need is to record your cycling with a compatible GPS device, upload it to Strava and then you can analyse your data. You can compare your performance to previous efforts, your mates and even pro riders - all of this, for free.

    Garmin Connect

All Garmin computers and devices will work with Garmin Connect. This is an online service that allows you to analyse your performance data, and share it with your friends. Reports show you how you’re progressing and you can use the calendar feature to plan your training sessions over time.
