Product description

The Cube Attain GTC SL Disc - a surprisingly comfortable, high performance long-distance race bike - is the highlight of the Attain model series.

Cube’s GTC SL is so efficient it feels right at home leading out the peloton, whether that's on a long climb or a high speed, twisting descent. Cutting edge disc brake technology means you get the best possible braking performance with big safety reserves, even at high speed and in poor weather conditions.

Frame:

Disc brake forces need a different approach to frame design and construction. That's why Cube’s Comfort Flex carbon frame is equipped with X12 axles at front and rear - they massively increase the frame's stiffness.

It's also the reason Cube opted for a tapered head tube with integrated headset to plug the CSL Race carbon fork into. In complete contrast, they incorporated aero Flex Stays into the rear end, in order to make this uncompromising road race machine comfortable as well as efficient.

To maximise service life and clean up the bike's appearance, Cube routed all the cables internally. A PressFit bottom bracket ensures long-term smooth running and efficient power transfer, and they’ve even allowed for winter training rides by including room for mudguards.

Components:

Cube’s top-end Attain models comes fitted with a pro level Shimano Ultegra groupset for ultra-slick shifting performance. You also get high quality Shimano BR-RS505 hydraulic disc brakes. Power is transferred via a compact chainset with 50 and 34 tooth chainrings, while at the rear an 11 speed cassette runs from 11 to 32 teeth.

Plugged into the dropouts at each end are the amazingly fast DT-Swiss Spline R24 wheels, anchored to the road via grippy and fast-rolling Schwalbe One Kevlar tyres.

Great bike, Great value

After doing some research on road bikes with disc brakes around this price point I narrowed my choice down to 3. Two were based on previous brands I have owned and then there was the Cube Attain GTC Pro Disc. Then Tredz put on a great deal over the Bank Holiday which meant this bike (with Ultegra) was cheaper than the full price Pro Disc. As I also preferred the aesthetics of this bike so I went for it. I am very pleased with this bike. As my other bike is a disc braked, ‘tall’, aluminium and 10kg + (though very comfortable) it is not surprising that this is lighter and faster. As a sportive bike it is still comfortable even with 25mm tyres (at the right pressure for my 6’4” 210lb plus frame). My weekend rides have gotten longer as this is a joy to ride. I am covering distances at faster speeds and enjoying pushing myself on steady down hills. One note is though I know Ultegra is lighter (if that’s your thing) I don’t feel any discernible performance difference between my bike with 105 and this. Time will tell about durability. Having just completed my local Velothon I would definitely recommend this bike, it feels fast as it’s not the tallest of sportive bikes and it’s great for long rides.

Great bike, great value

I spent lots of time deciding which bike to go for and always kept coming back to the Cube. And boy am I a happy bunny! As soon as I got the bike out the box, it looked great. You can feel the little extra weight of the disc brakes but I will come back to those. The bike was all set up as promised. One slight little niggle is the bar tape was a bit loose on one of the bar ends. After a little ride and a few tweaks, the bike was set for it's first outing and what a rewarding ride. PBs everywhere on Strava! The bike is responsive and just seems to chew up the miles. Now the brakes. After much debate, I took the plunge and went for disc and it is definitely the right choice for my kind of riding. It feels safe and as the brakes bed in you feel 100% in control of the bike, especially at speed. With the spec, finish, performance and value of this bike it should be on everyone's list looking for a good mid range carbon bike. Chapeau Cube.
