Works well...when it works

These are silky smooth bearings from new, the trouble is they just don't seem very durable or as resistant to odd clicks and creaks as even the lower-end Shimanos. I've had two fitted to my bike even though it's only done 2,000 miles and now that the second is beginning to bug me with its noise I will be looking to replace with a Dura-Ace BB which is actually a similar price.

If you've got an fsa omega chainset, with a 19mm spindle, there don't seem to be many options other than this one. doesn't seem to last as long as I would expect, but with the right removal tool it's easy enough to replace.

FSA Megaexo Omega BB

Not the best bit of kit but it runs smoothly super easy to fit and remove as long as you grease it up properly. Longevity is dependent on the rider and their riding style. I'm quite light so get about 8000 miles out of one. When they start to go they do go very quickly indeed. I've had one disintegrate and shed balls on me. To be fair this is a budget bit of kit so cant complain. If you want bomb proof by a Chris King BB.

FSA Omega Drive BB

Nice and smooth but not great lifetime Previous one lasted just under 12 months lets see how this one goes. As previous review states if you have FSA cranks then you're stuck with their BBs...

This Bottom bracket is ok will look after you if you keep it greased and serviced! it seems this is the only BB that is compattible with the fsa omega 19mm cranks after 1500 road miles its starting to develop a few mm play fair product bit expensive tho !

Bottom Brackets Guide

What is a bottom bracket?

A bottom bracket is the bearings that the crank axle passes through, keeping the cranks turning smoothly.

Who needs a bottom bracket?

Every bike has a bottom bracket, so if your bike is creaking or feels stiff or notchy as you turn the pedals, your bottom bracket might be worn out and need replacing.

What are the choices?

It’s not so much a choice as a matter of compatibility. You need to establish whether your bottom bracket is press-fit or threaded and what size. Then you need to make sure it is compatible with your crankset. If it’s worn out, replacing like for like is often the easiest thing to do.

What should I buy with it?

You need some specialist tools both to fit and remove bottom brackets and to remove the cranks to get at it.

Anything else?

If you’re fitting a bottom bracket into a brand new frame, your frame will need some preparation first. Bottom bracket shell facing tools can be very costly, so you might need to bring it into a bike workshop to get this done.
