Unfit for purpose

Bought thru c2w for my long commute (18 miles each way) which takes in 11 miles canal towpaths and 7 miles of road, including approx mile of hills. 400 yards into first ride, bottom bracket started squeaking which 400 metres further developed into a constant high pitched squeal. Now I understand the battery is not the strongest, but didn't use it at all on the towpath, 5 miles of eco mode and leads than half mile on a 6% hill left the battery flat from full. Iweigh 76kg and put a lot of effort in myself. At times, instead of assisting, the motor was actually dragging to the extent it felt like I was cycling through mud! Then the front forks decided to crack and bang every so often. Ride took 20 minutes longer than same route on my 3 speed Pashley Guvnor. Bike now back with tredz for inspection and am asking for an exchange - would have been better on a fixie uphill!

Ignore original review

My original review is below under “Great value” below. Less than 2 weeks after receiving the bike it refused to charge the battery. I assume that this is a common problem as there are no spare batteries available in the UK. Therefore whilst I’m otherwise happy with the bike, I would advise against buying one if you want to use it this summer...

Gtech eScent Saves the day

Bought this at a reduced price on a bike2work scheme. After many years of commuting 30 miles per day I took a 6 month lazy break and was struggling to regain the strength and stamina to regularly get back in the saddle. This Gtech is superb in ECO mode. It provides a little push when needed. The components are well thought out and work perfectly. The saddle doesn’t suit me but the Thudbuster seat post is great. It really does smooth out the road and trail without bobbing you out of the saddle. I wish I’d discovered these seat posts years ago. Tredz has done a great job of putting the bike together. Everything worked straight out of the box. I’m not using it in full power mode as I don’t really need it and don’t like the pulsing of the motor cutting in around the speed limiter. ECO mode is smooth and still provides assistance at higher speeds up to the approx 15mph limit. In ECO mode over 15 mile one way commute it uses only 30% of the battery averaging 14mph. The ECO mode on single track needs a different style of riding on tight switchback climbs. I find I’m feathering the rear brake to compensate for any power surge on technical ascents. I’ve also ridden the bike without the battery and it’s an easy bike to ride. I’m very pleased with this eBike at the discounted price.

G tech e-bike

Great bike if you only need to commute small distances as you do not get the 30miles distance, more like 20 if your lucky an turn it off on flats and downhill. The gears are very smooth and brakes work great. It's a great all round e-bike and works really well off terrain and when turned off. Great value for money could have just done with a better battery with longer distances.

Great value

This is my first ebike so I don’t have anything to compare it against. The main purpose of this is to ride to work, so I was thinking of a hybrid / road ebike. However the electric boost means that this is perfectly good for road trips - and brilliant for potholes! The power comes in as soon as you pedal, so you need to learn not to pedal during a tight turn. Once its up to the 15mph its easy enough to take it faster in top gear, although those with long straight roads may miss not having a couple of steps higher on the gearing. When coming to a stop I feel the need to pedal when changing down gear which gives you an unwanted acceleration, but that’s probably just me getting used to an ebike. The bike is not light, but equally the power meant that this was not a problem for me on the road. Maybe people using it on the road most of the time would benefit from road tyres, but I don’t plan to change them. The bike is well put together with good quality parts. Tredz did a good job of assembling it - I had the pedals on and handlebars straightened within half an hour. I ordered the mud guards afterwards and the rear one is a bit fiddly but fine if you take some air out of the tyre. After 10 miles on max power I had over 50% so its plenty for my journey, but some may want an additional battery (they’re not heavy). I’m sure there are better ebikes around, but I’m confident you won’t get a better one for the price Tredz are offering this for right now (nearly half price). For 90% of casual cycling, this bike is great fun.
