Flimsy connection

After a few weeks of use the connecting wire has obviously had enough and only occasionally works therefore making it less safe to try to use than not! Loud when it did work which was good. If you're planning to take this off your bike ever (as it is designed to do) then don't buy it as the wire will stop working soon.

Very loud - but not always heard!

I recently bought this horn after realising that the standard bell wasn't enough to attract attention - from kids, en masse, taking up the full width of the combined cycle/footpath, idiots looking at their phones instead of where they are going (a pet hate of mine), people with earphones and the deaf elderly. This horn attracts the attention of the dog walkers (and dogs!) and most pedestrians but still some people either don't/won't/cannot hear it. Only yesterday I still managed to make a middle aged woman, with no obvious hearing impairment, jump as I rode past her after sounding the horn. I believe some people, kids especially, wilfully ignore you and expect you to go around them. Difficult when they are blocking the cycle path and you have nowhere to go. I have not yet had occasion to use this horn against a motor vehicle so I cannot comment on its effectiveness in this situation but it has to be better than an ordinary bell.

Broken

I have used this for 1 year and 4 months and today it stopped working. I kooked inside and a component has come clean off the circuit board - it was not soldered on well and has come off from vibration. The componenmt should have been set on the board more securely, but as it is over a year old I guess I have lost my money. This should be made to withstand vibration!

Revision

I reviewed soon after I bought it and I was enthusiastic. A few months after the connecting wire broke up, very flimsy. I cannot see the reason to buy a new one. They should think about a remote

Great

This noisey horn saved my bacon the first day I used it, when a dozy woman on the wrong side of the road was heading towards me at speed having a chat with her friend it woke her up a treat, this horn is VERY Loud the down side is that it's a bit intimidating to others and when it's on low it emits a beep, if it sounded more like a bell people would not be so offended as I got a few black looks from walkers on the cycle paths

Brilliant bit of kit

This little but loud horn does exactly what I was hoping, and I wish I had bought one years ago. Those pedestrians that step into the road without looking, wearing, earphones and playing pokemon go leap in the air at the sound of this horn, and get out of my way. It is even heard and responded to by car drivers, but none have yet leaped into the air. It is possible to buy an extra trigger so that you can swap the Hornit from bike to bike which is a great idea. The only downside is feeling the need to remove it from the bike when parking it so it doesn't get stolen.

Defective connecting cable

I am now on my third Hornit device as the junction between the jack plug and the cable and also the switch and the cable tends to fracture. I have taped these junctions on my new device in an attempt to increase its longevity. The Hornit itself is fantastic and it is such a shame that this minor design fault keeps recurring.

Super Loud

easy to fit to bike. 1st horn really loud and piercing, good for cars trying to push you onto pavement. 2nd horn ideal for pedestrians and dog walkers in woods. service dept really good when faults occur. Better than bicycle bell!!

Loud!

Seriously loud and should clear the wandering pedestrians, even those with earphones. easy to mount switch and unit, but feels a little plasticky - time will tell

Bells & Horns Guide

What are bike bells and horns?

Bells and horns are a great way of alerting other road or path users to your presence. They are easy to attach to your handlebars and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and loudness options.

Who needs a bells or horn?

If you regularly cycle on paths designed for bikes and pedestrians, bells and horns are a must-have for alerting people to your presence.

What are the choices?

There are a variety of bells and horns to choose from, varying in budget and volume. Choose one that’s easy to operate when wearing gloves and one that’s unlikely to rust quickly.

What should I buy with them?

Other accessories for your handlebars include lights and cycle computers – why not create yourself a mini control panel of useful devices?

Anything else?

Why can’t an elephant ride a bicycle? Because he doesn’t have a thumb to ring the bell.
