The Lapierre Spicy CF 8.9 is a long-travel carbon enduro bike designed around technical terrain and descending. Lapierre states that the frame provides 170mm of rear travel, paired with a 180mm fork and a 29/27.5in wheel concept for a gravity-focused setup.
The High Carbon Uni frame uses aggressive enduro geometry, while the mixed wheel concept is intended to combine the rollover and control of a larger front wheel with the manoeuvrability of a smaller rear wheel. This makes the Spicy well suited to steep trails, rough descents and enduro riding where control and agility both matter.
A Fox 38 Float Factory fork provides 180mm of front travel and uses a GRIP X2 damper. Its substantial chassis suits the demands of long-travel enduro riding, while the damper provides adjustment for riders looking to fine-tune suspension behaviour.
At the rear, a Fox Float X2 Factory Series shock in a 205x65mm trunnion configuration manages the Spicy's stated 170mm of rear-wheel travel. Together with the 180mm fork, this gives the bike plenty of suspension for rough and technical terrain without overstating its capabilities.
Shimano Deore XT provides the 1x12-speed drivetrain. The RD-M8250-SGS Shadow ES rear derailleur is paired with a wireless SW-M8250-IR shifter, while a Deore XT CS-M8200 12-speed cassette and CN-M8100 chain complete the gearing.
A Shimano Deore XT FC-M8200 Hollowtech II crankset completes the main drivetrain components, giving the Spicy a predominantly XT setup.
Braking also comes from Shimano Deore XT, with BR-M8220 four-piston hydraulic disc brakes fitted front and rear. Both use 203mm rotors, providing controlled braking for managing speed on steep descents and technical sections.
DT Swiss EX 1700 Spline wheels use 30mm-wide, tubeless-ready rims. They're paired with Continental Kryptotal-F Enduro SuperSoft tyres, with the soft compound and Enduro construction focused on grip and control on demanding trails.
There is a discrepancy in the supplied wheel information. Lapierre's description states that the bike uses a 29/27.5in mixed wheel setup, but both supplied tyres are listed as 60-622, which corresponds to 29in. The DT Swiss rim specification also doesn't provide separate front and rear diameters. I've therefore retained Lapierre's stated MX wheel concept without assigning the supplied tyre sizes to individual wheels.
A Fox Transfer Factory dropper post is listed with 120mm of travel, allowing the saddle to be lowered for descents and technical terrain. It's paired with a 145mm-wide Prologo Proxim Nembo saddle with steel rails.
An XLC HB-M34 handlebar uses a 35mm clamp diameter, 30mm rise and 9-degree backsweep, providing a cockpit suited to the Spicy's gravity-focused riding position.
Overall, the Lapierre Spicy CF 8.9 combines a carbon enduro chassis with Fox Factory suspension, Shimano XT components and DT Swiss wheels. Its 180/170mm suspension setup and mixed-wheel concept make it particularly suited to riders looking for a capable bike for technical enduro trails and descending.
Please note: Lapierre states that the frame is covered by a two-year warranty. Component availability may also result in some parts being substituted with equivalent alternatives.

* Mountain bikes are sized differently to road bikes. Typically, they are sized in inches as the first MTBs were produced in the USA. European brands like Lapierre and Haibike like to use centimetres for all their bikes. The measurements of their mountain bikes doesn’t match their road bikes but are like a simple conversion from the inches measurement. This is why we have included cm measurements in brackets for the Mountain bike column.
