I'm disappointed

The web reviews are mixed - some say the horn is loud, some that it resembles a bird sound. In my case, people seem not to hear it at all, whereas they hear and recognise a traditional bicycle bell. When vehicles are nearby, even I can hardly hear it. I wondered if I had a different model from some of the other reviewers. I will now buy a proper horn with a squeezy bulb.

IS IT A BIRD?

In the short period of owning and using this product, the majority of people look up into the trees looking for birds, not behind them! The people that I had to stop for said "it sounded like a bird in the trees", so they stopped to look up for them. When I rang my bell, one said "now, I recognize that sound as being a bicycle and would have turned around and then moved to the side! As a "bicycle coming warning", this product could be dangerous to use if it doesn't get people to turn and realise a bicycle is coming! Even more so, if you happen to be cycling along a canal tow path, or a riverside path! In hindsight, an ill advised purchase, unless the one I got was a "DUD"!

Bike bell / horn

This bell or rather a horn can be heard with no problem at all by drivers in their car even if the windows closed up unlike a regular bike bell that would not be heard by a driver with closed up windows. Its well made and very good value for the money.

Bought this as an alternative to a bell to alert other cycle path users of my presence it worked well on the whole but I had a few dog walkers looking up into the trees looking for the tweeting bird. It is quite loud for its compact size.

This is a high pitch horn sounds like a home alarm only not as loud thankfully. Replaced a standard bell and this gets noticed without making people jump.

Bracket way too small but load enough

Volume level about right but the fitting bracket is just way to small no chance of it fitting on a carbon handle bar put it on my daughters kids bike instead and that only just fits

Good product with the right sort if volume to be heard without causing offence. The small diameter fitting means you will not fit it round bar tape or cables

Bells & Horns Guide

What are bike bells and horns?

Bells and horns are a great way of alerting other road or path users to your presence. They are easy to attach to your handlebars and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and loudness options.

Who needs a bells or horn?

If you regularly cycle on paths designed for bikes and pedestrians, bells and horns are a must-have for alerting people to your presence.

What are the choices?

There are a variety of bells and horns to choose from, varying in budget and volume. Choose one that’s easy to operate when wearing gloves and one that’s unlikely to rust quickly.

What should I buy with them?

Other accessories for your handlebars include lights and cycle computers – why not create yourself a mini control panel of useful devices?

Anything else?

Why can’t an elephant ride a bicycle? Because he doesn’t have a thumb to ring the bell.
