The Merida Matts J.20+ is designed to give younger riders a fun, capable and confidence-building bike without unnecessary weight. At its heart is a lightweight 6061 aluminium frame, built with the same care and attention to detail as Merida’s adult bikes. Double-butted tubing and smooth welds keep the frame strong but light, making it easier for children to handle and control.

A rigid aluminium fork is used instead of suspension, keeping weight down and ensuring predictable handling. The oversized 20” wheels are paired with wide Maxxis Pace tyres that give extra cushioning, grip and control on mixed terrain – perfect for adventurous rides on paths, tracks and trails.

The 1x drivetrain keeps things simple, using an 8-speed Microshift Acolyte system with a wide-range 11-34T cassette to cover both climbs and flats. The short-reach trigger shifter is specifically designed for small hands, with a single-click action to keep gear changes smooth and easy to master.

Braking is handled by child-specific Tektro HD-J2820 hydraulic disc brakes, with 160mm rotors front and rear to ensure consistent stopping power in all weather. Levers are short reach too, so smaller hands can use them comfortably and safely.

Practical details make the bike grow with the rider: the flip-flop stem and headset spacers allow for handlebar height adjustments, extending the life of the bike as children get taller. A junior-specific finishing kit, from the narrower bars to the shorter cranks and scaled saddle, ensures the fit is right for riders between 109–129 cm tall.
