The Orbea Orca M30 is built around low weight, efficient power transfer and responsive handling. Rather than pursuing aerodynamics at the expense of everything else, the Orca is designed to deliver the lively ride feel associated with a lightweight road bike, making it particularly well suited to climbing and routes with plenty of changes in gradient.
The OMR carbon frame uses monocoque construction, allowing Orbea to control the shape and structure of different areas of the frame. The aim is to remove unnecessary material where possible while retaining stiffness where it's needed for efficient pedalling and predictable handling.
That balance between weight and stiffness is central to the Orca's design. A lightweight frame can feel responsive when accelerating and changing direction, but adequate rigidity is equally important to make sure pedalling effort is transferred efficiently. Orbea has developed the Orca around both rather than chasing the lowest possible frame weight alone.
The matching Orca OMR fork uses full carbon construction, including the steerer, helping reduce weight at the front of the bike. A tapered steerer and 12mm thru-axle contribute to accurate steering and a secure connection between the fork and front wheel.
Shimano 105 R7100 provides mechanical 2x12-speed shifting. A 50/34T chainset is paired with an 11-34T cassette, giving the Orca a broad range of gears. The compact chainset and 34T largest sprocket provide useful lower ratios for sustained and steeper climbs, while the 2x setup maintains smaller steps between gears for keeping a comfortable cadence on the road.
Shimano R7170 hydraulic disc brakes provide consistent and easily controlled braking across changing conditions. Hydraulic operation requires relatively little lever effort and offers useful modulation for managing speed through corners and on longer descents.
The 700c alloy wheels are tubeless ready and use a 19mm internal rim width. They're fitted with 28mm Continental Grand Prix folding tyres, providing a versatile road setup that balances rolling efficiency, grip and cushioning over less-than-perfect tarmac.
A 27.2mm Orbea SP 0.2 carbon seatpost helps keep weight down while offering some compliance over rougher road surfaces. It's paired with a Fizik Aliante R5 saddle, while the OC Road Performance RP23 stem and RP31 handlebar complete the cockpit.
Internal cable routing gives the Orca a clean appearance around the frame and cockpit, while the frame is also compatible with a power meter if you want to add power-based training and pacing in the future.
The Orca M30 is a good fit for riders who prioritise low weight, climbing efficiency and responsive handling rather than the deeper tube profiles of a dedicated aero bike. With its OMR carbon frameset and mechanical Shimano 105 2x12 drivetrain, it's a versatile road bike for climbing, sportives, faster recreational rides and long days across varied terrain.
