Sitting pretty

After reading several reviews decided that a reclining seat was best. This represented the best value for money, being well made and robust looking. Take time to read and understand the fitting instructions and it will be straightforward. There are always the youtube videos to watch as well. Delivery and packaging from Tredz was v. good.

Reclining Childseats Guide

What is a reclining childseat?

Reclining childseats are the ultimate in comfortable travel for small children. Giving your child a birds' eye view of their surroundings and keeping them reassuringly close at hand, they’re suitable from around 9 months, or when the child is able to sit without support. A reclining childseat gives the option of lying the child down a little when it’s nap time!

Who needs a reclining childseat?

Childseats are great as not only do they give the child an introduction to cycling, there’s no need for a babysitter as you can take a child with you on rides. The extra weight is great for building up muscle and the reclining position is useful for inducing sleep. Take your child on adventures, visits or even to and from school or nursery.

What are the choices?

There are lots of childseats to choose from, in a range of styles and colours and with various features. Look for a seat which will be easy to use – it can be quite a task balancing a bike and trying to get a squirming toddler in place and secure. For that reason, a one-hand release mechanism is a good move. Feet stirrups also mean you won’t get kicked in the back while you’re riding!

What should I buy with it?

An additional mount means you can swap the seat between bikes with the minimum of fuss. Rain ponchos are easily portable, so they are great in the event of a downpour and a helmet is an important piece of safety kit for your passenger.

Anything else?

Small children can get bored easily so don’t overdo it and ride a sportive complete with child and seat as we witnessed recently. Remember that the child isn’t exercising, and can easily get cold. Make sure they are wrapped up warm and don’t make too long a day of it.
