Does what it is suposed to do

As an easy to fit chain guide, this fits the bill. It has plastic internals that will wear out over time. I get about 800 miles out of mine but a lot of that was gritty mud riding. Does a job and never had any issue with it. I'm on my 3rd one.

A lot of drag!

I bought this chain guide for a 2x10 drive train to add a bit more chain tension. Whilst the build quality and design are pretty good, it adds a LOT of drag to the chain whilst pedalling and outweighs any benefit in my opinion.

Chainguides Guide

What are chainguides?

Chainguides are designed to mechanically keep the chain from falling off the drivetrain, commonly used in mountain biking.

Who needs a chainguide?

A chainguide is to help prevent a dropped chain while mountain biking. Bikers who ride a single or double ring set-up on very rough terrain will benefit the most.

What are the choices?

You can choose from an upper or lower chain guide, which helps keep the chain line in place. Lower chain guides work well with dual-ring set-ups, upper guides are good for single-ring arrangements. You can also get chainguides that come with an integrated bash guard.

What should I buy with them?

If you’re replacing a triple set-up, a bashguard that goes in place of the outer chainring is a popular choice.

Anything else?

It’s crucial that you make sure your bike’s frame has the right fittings for your chosen chainguard. Some fit around the bottom bracket, others clamp around the seat tube and more still use ISCG tabs that are welded to the frame.
